As part of the Comparative Medicine team, you will advance the Pfizer Research & Development portfolio through providing animal surgical models, anesthesia and analgesia expertise and assistance in veterinary care.It is your hard work along with innovative ideas and focus that will help in making Pfizer ready to achieve new milestones and help patients across the globe.How You Will Achieve It

Perform surgeries in a variety of species illustrating acceptable surgical standards, techniques and technologies in support of the Pfizer therapeutic portfolio, this may include model development in collaboration with Research Units or production models in support of preclinical safety at a GLP facility.Provide surgical and anesthesia support for all species in support of the preventive medicine program, such as dental prophylaxis procedures.Aid in development of new or continued refinement of surgical techniques or special capabilities in utilization of new technologies and while championing the 3Rs principles.Understand and perform multimodal anesthesia and pain management protocols in a variety of species.Aid in maintaining equipment and stock of supplies and liaise with surgical model vendors and supply vendors.Flexibility to provide support to the preventive medicine program, first line evaluation of clinical cases or clinical monitoring of study animals and initiate diagnostics and treatments under the direction of a clinical veterinarian.Rotational after hours, weekend, and holiday coverage.Produce reports, posters, presentations, and other project updates for internal communication and engagement.May be required to work under one of the following: The United States Department of Agriculture Animal Welfare Act and associated Regulations and Standards, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, Good Laboratory Practices, Public Health Service Policy and/or AAALAC accreditation standards.Qualifications

Must-Have

BS/BA or AA with Licensed Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT) certification required with 6+ years' experience.Surgical competencies and proficiency in surgical procedures in laboratory animal species.Experience performing and managing multimodal anesthesia and analgesia in multiple species.Nice-to-Have

Experience providing hands-on clinical care to a wide variety of laboratory animals.Masters Degree with 4+ years of experience.Has contributed to manuscripts and reports and made internal and/or external presentations.ASR certification - Surgical Research Anesthetist (SRA) or Surgical Research Technician (SRT) certification preferred.Physical/Mental Requirements

For this position, if at a site with nonhuman primates, you are expected to enter the nonhuman primate areas as part of your job responsibilities, a pre-hire requirement is either providing proof of measles immunity or receiving the measles vaccination

before

In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
