MEDEX Northwest is the Physician Assistant Program at the University of Washington and is a section of the Department of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine. MEDEX has five campuses located at University of Alaska in Anchorage, AK; Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA; Kona, Hawaii; UW Tacoma; and UW Seattle (main campus).
Position Overview
The Clinical Placement Coordinator is responsible for facilitating clinical placements for MEDEX students at the following campuses: ANC, KON, SEA, TAC, SPO. This job will involve identifying and negotiating clinical placement settings, appropriate preceptors, and other clinical-related learning experiences. The Clinical Placement Coordinator will arrange all aspects of the clinical experience including identifying the need for new contracts with potential clinical agencies and/or preceptors and assuring compliance with contractual agreements. The Clinical Placement Coordinator will work closely with other local and distant campus staff involved in the utilization of the Clinical Placement System(s) and those involved in assuring compliance with background checks, health/immunization requirements, and drug screens as appropriate. The Clinical Placement Coordinator will also collaborate with the Director of Clinical Program Operations and APD of Clinical Affairs to determine placement needs each quarter.
Supervision:
This position is supervised directly by the Director of Clinical Program Operations, Associate Program Director of Clinical Affairs, and ultimately to the MEDEX Associate Program Director of Administration. Job Responsibilities The Clinical Placement Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development and evaluation of clinical sites and arranging clinical experiences consistent with didactic/clinical course objectives. The Clinical Placement Coordinator is one of the primary contacts for clinical placements and serves as the liaison with partnering institutions, organizations, agencies, private practices, and individuals with whom MEDEX students will have clinical experiences. The Clinical Placement Coordinator is responsible for complex communication and problem-solving to maintain positive working relationships. Communicate via email, phone and/or in person with MEDEX Clinical Coordinators and faculty, and/or placement coordinators in hospitals and clinics to develop clinical placements for MEDEX students. Coordinate with Director of Clinical Program Operations and Clinical Coordinators to determine the number of student placements needed each quarter and the level, and type of experience needed. Attend clinical affiliation meetings, community professional meetings, recruitment job fairs, and other meetings throughout WAAMI+H when they occur as appropriate. Ensure that the facility contracts are current and initiate renewal process or new contract process as needed. Maintain a list of the approved adjunct clinical faculty and preceptors by clinical specialty. Interact with clinical agencies to plan for and schedule student group clinical or individual preceptor rotations. Evaluate and file the clinical logs of students in MEDEX program working in conjunction with the Clinical Coordinator(s). Conduct site visits to clinical agencies as needed to assure maintenance of a strong working relation. Schedule and notify students and clinical faculty regarding the clinical orientations for each student group each quarter. Distribute the student and agency evaluation forms and clinical teaching forms to clinical faculty and preceptors as needed. Maintain all files related to clinical assignments. Provide input into the evaluation process of clinical instructors/preceptors. In collaboration with the Director of Clinical Program Operations manage student clinical placement issues as appropriate.
