PRN Cytotechnologist

Job Description:Job Summary:Must have extensive knowledge in preparing, staining, and evaluating gynecological and non-gynecological material including fine needle aspirations. Demonstrates competency in assessing all material with a high level of accuracy. Shows good judgment with attention to details as well as respect for patient confidentiality. Works professionally and courteously with physicians, patients, guests, and other employees. Performance of duties is in accordance with policies and guidelines established with Baptist Hospital East Laboratory.Principal Duties and Responsibilities:Assists with fine needle aspiration immediate evaluation and procurement.Performs processing, staining, and cover slipping of various types of cytological material.Performs routine microscopic evaluation of cytologic smears and cell blocks.Performs operation and maintenance of the microscope, centrifuge, cytocentrifuge, and all chemical reagents.Performs clerical duties including entering data into computers, answering phones, and distribution of reports.Completely and correctly screens and interprets cytologic specimens.Numbers specimens received into logbook and computer system with proper identification as to the patient and specimen type.Assists with processing of specimens collected in C.T. scan and frozen sections as required.Monitors the supplies of the department.Assists in the orientation of new personnel.Performs all procedures according to department and hospital policies.Assists or participates in special projects.Minimum Education, Training and Experience Required:A baccalaureate degree or higher from a regionally accredited college/university and successful completion of the Cytotechnology program from an accredited institution. Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) is required.
