EmployeePosition Title:

Water Insecurity Epidemiologist (Epidemiologist 1) LIMITED DURATION (24 MONTHS)Job Description:The

Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Environmental Public Health / Healthy Waters Unit

in Portland, Oregon has a fantastic career opportunity for a

Water Insecurity Epidemiologist (Epidemiologist 1) , which will plan, develop, conduct, and prepare reports on epidemiological studies, and provides data management and consultation for the team. This is a full-time, limited duration position and is represented by a union. The duration of this position is expected to last 24 months. Limited duration positions are benefit eligible. This recruitment may be used to establish a list of qualified candidates to fill current or future vacancies. What will you do?The new Healthy Waters program in EPH is responsible for the Lower Umatilla Basin Groundwater Management Area’s (LUBGWMA) domestic well testing and nitrate-contaminated well treatment program, which requires epidemiological support to be aligned with comprehensive planning documents approved by Governor Tina Kotek. As the work in the LUBGWMA transitions from an emergency response into consistent and regular support of residents around testing and treatment for domestic wells contaminated with nitrate, there has been an increased need for data management support, data analysis, and reporting. This position would provide not only those supports, but also a higher level of expertise in synthesis of community health data to improve interventions designed to protect residents and their families. This position would also be responsible for the development, distribution, analysis, and reporting of a demographic survey, (using REALD), created to provide OHA with additional detail about the communities being impacted by our work, which will identify health inequities. Once complete, this position would be charged with communicating those results to OHA leadership, the Governor’s Office, LPHAs, CBOs, and other interested parties. Finally, this position may also be responsible for designing and implementing a study of health outcomes for LUBGWMA residents. Studies on the effects of nitrate on health can be challenging given the limitations on capturing comprehensive health data of residents but a descriptive health outcome study should be attempted to provide additional data around community need, and this will require epidemiological training and expertise. What's in it for you?The public health division is a team of passionate individuals working to promote health across the lifespan of individuals, families, and communities. We value and support unique perspectives using a trauma-informed approach and aim to reflect these values in our hiring practices, professional development, and workplace. We are committed to racial equity as a driving factor to improve health outcomes for all communities that experience inequities. We offer exceptional
