We are seeking passionate individuals for the role of Family & Youth Engagement Coordinator. The main purpose of this position will be to coordinate and monitor state and local activities of the agency to promote and ensure the inclusion of families, youth, and community stakeholders in system decision-making, programs, and processes. With managerial oversight or executive supervision, the Family & Youth Engagement Coordinator coordinates and monitors state and local activities of the agency to promote and ensure the inclusion of families, youth, and community stakeholders in system decision-making, programs, and processes. This includes short and long-term strategic goals, evaluating implemented strategies, establishing and maintaining partnerships with internal and external groups; and staff and stakeholder training to increase knowledge and capacity for youth and family engagement. This position also ensures that family and youth engagement strategies align with national best practices of inclusion and race equity. The Family & Youth Engagement Coordinator is responsible for directing inclusion-based programs unique to the agency’s mission and operations. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule.POSITION DUTIES:

Some key responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to the following:PROGRAM AND RESOURCE COORDINATION:

Helps promote and sustain agency work culture that effectively engages youth and family perspectives and strengths-based needs; ensures alignment of DJS engagement strategies with national and other best practices, and integration of inclusion strategies and DJS work objectives.LEADERSHIP:

The Family & Youth Engagement Coordinator directly supervises agency staff who work with moderate and general supervision, including the Equity Specialist and Youth Engagement Specialist positions; supervision includes performance deliverables, use of time and resources, and daily coaching to enhance job performance.CAPACITY-BUILDING:

Builds DJS's capacity to support family needs holistically through training and reinforcement of inclusion principles during staff team meetings; designs and delivers in-person and virtual learning content on the youth justice system and other public systems for families, youth groups, and communities served by the agency.REVIEW AND REPORTING:

Reviews DJS policy to identify barriers and opportunities for family and youth engagement in operations and decision-making; conducts data analyses to assess the projected or real impact of policy or practice on families and caregivers.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social or Behavioral Science, Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Law, Political Science, Public Health, Public Administration, Child and Adolescent Studies, Education, or a related field.Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience working with children and youth involved with or at risk of involvement with public systems including: at least 2 years of experience in the direct provision of services to children and youth involved with public systems (Examples: Residential advisor, program associate, teacher, youth program leader, therapist, mentor, caseworker, or advocate) AND at least 2 years of experience in an administrative, supervisory, or advisory role within an organization or entity focused on serving children involved with public systems (Examples: Program coordinator, program manager, director of youth services, policy advisor, board member for a youth-focused non-profit). Note: Direct experience as a Family and Youth Engagement Coordinator or a similar role can be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the general experience requirements.DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The preferred candidate for this position may possess any of the following qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of the criminal or youth legal systems and legal terminology; experience in policy development or analysis; experience in program evaluation; experience in formal diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and initiatives; experience working with people of diverse racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds; experience conducting training and professional development, making group presentations, and public speaking; lived experience with the criminal and/or juvenile justice systems, either directly or by supporting a loved one involved in the system; strong written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated commitment to racial and social justice.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.SELECTION PROCESS:
