DepartmentBSD NSU - Research - Awad LabAbout the DepartmentThe Neurovascular Surgery Research Program is a translational research unit, funded by the NIH and other sources, and engaged in national and international collaborative projects. It includes scientists from different disciplines, focusing on mechanisms of genesis of vascular malformations of the brain, biomarkers of disease in human subjects, and preclinical studies and clinical trials of novel interventions for vascular malformations and hemorrhagic stroke.Job SummaryUnder moderate supervision of the PI and Lab Manager, participates in scientific research projects for the Awad Lab. Analyzes possible solutions using standard procedures. Evaluates existing methods and objectives. Assists in drafting presentations on research findings.Responsibilities

Designs and executes lab experiments such as ELISA,

in situ

hybridization, DNA/RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, ddPCR and blood processing.Organizes and tracks internal and external blood and tissue samples.Utilizes research methods requiring a high degree of proficiency to achieve established research objectives.Evaluates existing methods and objectives, investigates, develops, and implements solutions to problems.Effectively communicates, coordinates, and troubleshoots team-based research efforts through participation in laboratory and research meetings.Maintains clear, accurate, complete, and timely reports of experiments.Helps with ordering and tracking supplies and equipment.Supervises and trains medical students and other laboratory volunteers and staff in research techniques, instruments, laboratory methods, procedures, and safety.Monitors compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.Drafts manuscripts for submission and prepares grants for submission.Assists PI with publications. May attend meetings and seminars as directed by the PI.May provide basic histological techniques as instructed.Applies research principles and relevant subject matter knowledge relevant to administer a research project. With a moderate level of direction, manages lab and/or research-related duties and tasks. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan.Supports data collection and analytical needs of research projects. Conducts literature reviews and helps write reports and manuscripts. Ensures project compliance with different policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.Takes responsibility for the following non-laboratory duties: transcribing and coding data; developing data collection instruments; presenting research; and recruiting and scheduling research subjects. Acquires higher-level skills and knowledge in the process.Takes responsibility for the following laboratory duties: recognizing abnormal results and varying conditions or procedures to correct problems; setting up and performing experiments. Analyze the meaning, significance, causes, and effects of the subject.Performs other related work as needed.Minimum QualificationsEducation:

Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.Work Experience:

Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.Preferred QualificationsEducation:Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.Experience:
