Murrells Inlet, South CarolinaDay - 8 hour shift (United States of America)Join Team Tidelands and help people live better lives through better health!Job Responsibilities:Leadership & Management:Provide strategic leadership and direction for the Health Information Management department, aligning goals with the organization's mission and objectives. Manage and mentor HIM staff, including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and professional development. Develop and oversee the HIM department budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.Health Information Systems Management:Oversee the management of electronic health records (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy, security, and accessibility of patient information. Collaborate with IT and clinical teams to implement and maintain health information systems that support clinical workflows and data management needs. Ensure the integrity and quality of health data, implementing data governance practices to maintain accuracy and consistency.Compliance & Regulatory Management:Ensure the organization’s HIM practices comply with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including HIPAA and other privacy and security laws. Develop, implement, and enforce policies and procedures related to the secure management, retention, and release of health information. Stay informed about changes in healthcare regulations and standards, updating practices and policies as necessary.Data Management & Reporting:Oversee the classification and indexing of patient records to ensure accurate billing, reimbursement, and reporting. Ensure timely and accurate submission of required health data to regulatory bodies, payers, and other external entities. Analyze health information data to provide insights that support clinical decision-making, quality improvement, and operational efficiency.Quality Improvement:Lead quality improvement initiatives within the HIM department to enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and effectiveness of health information processes. Implement best practices for document management and data integrity. Monitor and evaluate the performance of the HIM department, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.Qualifications:The Director of Health Information Management (HIM) is responsible for leading and managing the Health Information Management department to ensure the accurate and secure management of patient health records. This position plays a critical role in ensuring that the organization complies with regulatory standards, optimizes health information systems, and supports clinical and administrative functions.Education and Experience:Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certification is required; other relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Health Data Analyst - CHDA) are a plus. 7+ years of experience in Health Information Management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role. In-depth knowledge of health information management practices, including EHR systems, privacy, and compliance standards. Strong understanding of healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and other federal, state, and local requirements. Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills. Proficiency in health information systems, with advanced skills in data analysis and reporting.
