Registered Nurse I/II – Emergency Department (Regular & Per Diem)

The Position:Under general direction, the Emergency Department Registered Nurse will be responsible for providing rapid and high-quality nursing care to patients and to the community within the Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital. As a key member of our team, you will collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure that our patients receive timely and effective care. With a keen ability to remain calm under pressure and a commitment to ongoing education and training, emergency department nurses ensure that patients receive the critical attention they need while navigating complex medical emergencies with skill and compassion.

DEPARTMENT/AGENCY:

Health Care Agency – Ventura County Medical Center/ Santa Paula Hospital

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:Uses the full scope of the Nurse Practice Act to assess, plan, organize, and provide nursing care to assigned patients.Documents patient treatment and dispensing; makes patient observations; records and reports on all pertinent information, including changes in patient condition and general progress.Provides follow-through on judgment within the scope of accepted nursing practice.Manages high-stress situations and maintains composed under pressure to provide efficient and effective care to multiple patients.Follows prescribed doctors' orders concerning treatments and medications.Assists doctors in examination and treatment.Provides unit organization and is responsible for completion of all delegated and indicated nursing duties by the end of the assigned shift.Assists in training, supervision, and evaluation of new and ancillary personnel.Maintains current knowledge of nursing care developments and therapeutic measures; attends department in-services and staff development programs.In Ambulatory Medicine areas, provides physician assistance and patient care as indicated and required.May participate in quality assurance/utilization review or other non-direct patient care nursing assignments.Engages in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices in emergency nursing care.Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCERegistered Nurse I and Per Diem Registered Nurse IRequires no experience.Registered Nurse II and Per Diem Registered Nurse IIRequires six (6) months of recent full-time acute care registered nursing experience in an acute hospital or equivalent setting, or completion of the Ventura County Medical Center competency requirements as evaluated and approved by the Chief Nursing Executive.NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California, or Registered Nurse licensure in another state with California licensure pending.Must possess and maintain a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment.Must possess and maintain a current, valid Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.Must obtain an Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification OR a Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within six (6) months of employment.Successful completion of the Health Care Agency Pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment is mandatory for assignments within the Health Care Agency.

DESIREDPossession of a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certification.Possession of a National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.Possession of a Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Certification.Possession of a Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Certification.Willing to work night shifts.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Thorough knowledge of: the theory, techniques, and practices of professional nursing; medical terminology and hospital routine and equipment; and medicines and narcotics.Working ability to: plan and organize nursing care; train and supervise non-professional staff; establish and maintain the confidence of patients and staff; maintain confidentiality of patient/client information; work effectively in different healthcare and/or hospital departments or shifts as required; establish and maintain effective interpersonal relations with other staff members, patients, and their families; communicate effectively both orally and in writing.#J-18808-Ljbffr
