This role is part of the Lunar Transportation business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s multiple Blue Moon lander product lines. To further Blue Origin's mission of having millions of people living and working in space, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.As part of a hardworking team of diverse specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will develop and test cryocoolers designed for zero-boiloff (ZBO) applications. Your role will be to collaborate with other ZBO team engineers and technicians in the design, development, procurement, integration, testing, and troubleshooting of these cryocoolers and the components thereof. This position is based in Kent, WA.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:Assist in the design and thermal/fluid analysis of cryocooler and test asset componentsConduct component- and system-level thermodynamic analyses and trade studies for design optimizationEffectively communicate analytical results and effects of design changes on component and system performanceCollaborate with structural and manufacturing engineers to optimize component design and interfacesDemonstrate that system and component designs meet relevant requirementsContribute to cryocooler system and component testingAssist in developing test plans and procedures for component, subsystem, and integrated cryocooler testing in collaboration with ZBO and other Blue Origin test facilitiesExecute test procedures involving pressurized cryogenic and non-cryogenic fluid systemsReview and interpret test data to assess performance and health both at the system and component levelContribute to or author test reportsParticipate in gated design and test readiness reviewsEnsure work is completed in accordance with Blue Origin policies and proceduresMinimum QualificationsMinimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical, civil, aerospace, or aeronautical engineering2+ years’ experience with fluid/thermal system development and testingKnowledge of systems utilizing one or more of: liquid or gaseous hydrogen, oxygen, helium, nitrogen, and water, including the ability to perform fluid/thermal analysis as neededStrong written and interpersonal skillsDesire to take ownership of projectsStrong personal commitment to safetyAbility to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusionMust be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.Preferred Qualifications3+ years’ experience with fluid system development and testing in research/development facilitiesExperience in one or more of the following areas:Cryogenic fluid systemsThermodynamic cycle analysisHeat exchanger design, analysis, and/or testTurbomachine design, analysis, and/or testPressurized gas systemsVacuum systemsFluid and/or thermal analysis experience using Ansys, Thermal Desktop, or MATLABProduct-development experience through multiple development cycle phasesExperience with component qualification for spaceflightExperience operating test equipment and/or safely handling hazardous commoditiesAbility and desire to understand complex systems, investigate and solve challenging problems, and work in a dynamic environmentExperience with developing, writing, and updating technical procedures, standards, and specificationsCompensation Range:
