Consider joining the City of San Bernardino's Public Works Department as an Accounting Technician II.About The Position:The Accounting Technician II will be under administrative direction of the Budget Division Manager and will assist the Budget Division in responding to departmental inquiries pertaining to departmental expense related activities.

Has thorough knowledge of common finance practices in performing accounting, recordkeeping, to conduct budget analysis.What you will usually do:

Answers departmental and employee questions by verifying budget numbers, explaining policies, and procedures; responding to requests for budget transfers and amendments.Following up with departments to resolve minor errors or omissions.Assists in compiling information and preparing a variety of reports, summaries, and schedules.Assist in calculating position costing for departmental inquiries.CORE COMPETENCIESKnowledge of:

City policies, procedures, practices, terminology, and codes used in accounting and budget development.Operation of computers and standard financial software system, word processing and spreadsheet applications.Standard office practices and procedures, including filing and the maintenance of records.Customer service practices and telephone etiquette.Skills in:

Making calculations and tabulations and reviewing fiscal, budget, and related documents accurately and rapidly.Making decisions in accordance with City policies and procedures applicable to budget processing.Preparing clear and accurate financial and payroll records and reports.Communicating clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

You have:Education and Experience:High School diploma or G.E.D.ANDOne (1) year of progressively responsible experience in performing a variety of financial, budget, and accounting operations, statistical, purchasing, recordkeeping or cashiering duties; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.College-level coursework in bookkeeping or accounting from an accredited college or university is highly desirable.Experience in a municipal agency is desirable.Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:

A valid California driver’s license is required.
