Job Summary:

This position functions as an accurate and timely account billing and resolution specialist. The Patient Accounts Specialist reports directly to the Director of Revenue Cycle. The position collaborates and interacts with all departments to resolve and edit errors in support of hospital and departmental work activities. The position is responsible for analyzing and resolving outstanding receivables, utilizing remittance reports, payment advisories, explanation of benefits, provider portals and performing claim corrections as needed.

Essential Functions:

Perform accurate and timely billing and follow-up, reconciliation and resolution of outstanding account balances.

Identify potential reason(s) for payment denial, initiates and follows through with appropriate remedial action.

Analyze and resolve outstanding receivables utilizing remittance reports, payment advisories, explanation of benefits, provider portals and perform claim corrections as needed.

Process third party payer denials and related correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

Perform administrative and clerical functions including but not limited to data entry, Xerox copying, filing, calculating, faxing, create and maintain Excel reports as needed and/or as assigned.

Collaborate and interact with all departments to resolve edit errors and acts as a team member by covering for absences, training activities, etc. in support of hospital and departmental work activities.

Maintain job knowledge adequate to effectively carry out the responsibilities of assigned insurance group including understanding of Illinois Medicaid and Managed Medicaid policies and billing guidelines, eligibility verification, CPT, HCPC, ICD-9 & ICD-10 coding, occurrence, condition, span and value codes in addition to modifier usage.

Utilize third party denial management system to provide reports and workflow denials.

Calculate patient liability and perform system adjustments to support accurate patient statement billing as needed.

Respond to patient and/or insurer inquiries in a professional, timely, efficient and knowledgeable fashion, ensuring HIPAA and La Rabida guidelines are followed.

Monitor credit balance reports and performs analysis making appropriate claims adjustments and/or refunds as necessary.

Comply with departmental and organizational policies including but not limited to dress code, use of supplies, telephones and computers.

Able to participate in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and other activities as related to job performance, job knowledge and state regulations.

Adheres to work schedules and maintains a safe and orderly work area at all times, maintaining awareness of and compliance with safety policies and procedures.

Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers in a manner that reflects La Rabida Children’s Hospital's commitment to our community.

What we need from you:

High School Diploma or GED required.

More than 5 years successful track record in health care.

Experience with Inpatient Hospital Billing and Collections, Outpatient Specialty billing and collections and 1 year recent (within the past 3 years) experience using electronic billing (Passport/NEBO) or receivables systems required.

3 years recent experience (within the past 5 years) with hospital receivables and/or hospital billing required.

1 year recent (within the past 2 years) work experience in medical receivables resolution required.

3 yrs. experience in billing and collections for Illinois Medicaid required.

1 yr experience in billing and collections of Medicaid Managed Care Programs required.

2 yrs. experience in collections telephone calls to Payers required.

PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.

Minimum of 3 Yrs. experience working with Meditech specific Accounts Follow-up And Collections on a daily basis.

Some knowledge of Medical Terminology – Preferred.
