Job Summary:

This position functions as an accurate and timely account billing and resolution specialist. The Patient Accounts Specialist reports directly to the Director of Revenue Cycle. The position collaborates and interacts with all departments to resolve and edit errors in support of hospital and departmental work activities. The position is responsible for analyzing and resolving outstanding receivables, utilizing remittance reports, payment advisories, explanation of benefits, provider portals, and performing claim corrections as needed.

Essential Functions:

Perform accurate and timely billing and follow-up, reconciliation, and resolution of outstanding account balances.

Identify potential reason(s) for payment denial and initiate appropriate remedial action.

Analyze and resolve outstanding receivables utilizing remittance reports, payment advisories, explanation of benefits, provider portals, and perform claim corrections as needed.

Process third-party payer denials and related correspondence in a timely and accurate manner.

Perform administrative and clerical functions including data entry, Xerox copying, filing, calculating, faxing, and creating and maintaining Excel reports as needed.

Collaborate and interact with all departments to resolve edit errors and act as a team member by covering for absences, training activities, etc.

Maintain job knowledge adequate to effectively carry out the responsibilities of assigned insurance groups including understanding of Illinois Medicaid and Managed Medicaid policies and billing guidelines.

Utilize third-party denial management systems to provide reports and workflow denials.

Calculate patient liability and perform system adjustments to support accurate patient statement billing as needed.

Respond to patient and/or insurer inquiries in a professional and knowledgeable manner, ensuring HIPAA and La Rabida guidelines are followed.

Monitor credit balance reports and perform analysis making appropriate claims adjustments and/or refunds as necessary.

Comply with departmental and organizational policies.

Participate in educational programs, in-service meetings, workshops, and other activities related to job performance and state regulations.

Adhere to work schedules and maintain a safe and orderly work area at all times.

Consistently provide service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co-workers.

What we need from you:

High School Diploma or GED required.

More than 5 years successful track record in healthcare.

Experience with Inpatient Hospital Billing and Collections, Outpatient Specialty billing and collections, and 1 year recent experience using electronic billing systems required.

3 years recent experience with hospital receivables and/or hospital billing required.

1 year recent work experience in medical receivables resolution required.

3 years experience in billing and collections for Illinois Medicaid required.

1 year experience in billing and collections of Medicaid Managed Care Programs required.

2 years experience in collections telephone calls to Payers required.

PC skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Minimum of 3 years experience working with Meditech specific Accounts Follow-up and Collections on a daily basis.

Some knowledge of Medical Terminology – Preferred.
