As a

Manager, Risk Management,

you will, under the general supervision of the Director of Risk Management, be responsible for risk identification, prevention and reduction, and serve as a resource to assist providers responding to patient risk related concerns. Management of the leadership, development and maintenance of the medical liability insurance program and ensuring processes are completed timely.

Responsibilities:

Responsible for daily operations of the Risk Management Office including non-leadership personnel management, budget/fiscal responsibility, obtaining all required data and information, and allocating resources to various projects and initiatives.

Participate in the response to risk incidents by serving as a resource and consultant for providers and responding to patient risk related concerns.

Conduct preliminary assessments of patient relation and safety events to determine MCW’s potential involvement, responsibility, and/or response.

Coordinate the investigation and response to external regulatory agencies including the Medical Examining Board, Department of Regulation and Licensing, and the National Practitioner Databank.

Work with the Director and Associate Director of Risk Management to develop proactive clinical risk management recommendations to reduce the institution’s liability exposure.

Manage the medical liability insurance program for MCW by providing for appropriate, cost effective, and comprehensive coverage that protects the institution and its staff and complies with regulatory and contractual requirements.

Manage the risk management database and ensure data integrity.

Interact with MCW faculty and staff on a daily basis regarding insurance coverage, liability and risk management issues. Respond to faculty and staff requests for accurate information in a timely manner.

Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with the risk managers of Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital, Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin and MCWAH‑affiliated hospitals and resident risk managers.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge – Skills – Abilities

Ability to consult and address top-level MCW management including the President and CEO, Dean and Executive Vice President, General Counsel, Senior Associate Deans, Department Chairs, Department Administrators, Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers, and Clinical Practice Services leadership.

Staff management skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills required.

In depth knowledge of health care operations or administration and group practice administration.

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.

Excellent computer skills required.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis.

Minimum education: Bachelor’s DegreeMinimum experience: 8 years of risk management, quality assurance or similar experience. Administrative experience is helpful. Liaison and/or coordination with multiple levels of senior management.

Preferred Qualifications:Preferred education: Master's DegreePreferred experience: 10 years
