Requirements for Director, Medical Risk Management

As the Director of Medical Risk Management, you will be responsible for overseeing risk management programs, ensuring patient safety, and promoting regulatory compliance within healthcare organizations.

Two to Five years of Risk Management experience

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Master's Degree (MSN, MHA, or related field) : Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or Risk Management.

Risk Management Certification : Certifications such as CPHRM (Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management) or CPPS (Certified Professional in Patient Safety) are highly desirable.

Licensing: Registered Nurse (RN) license

in the state of Nevada if Registered Nurse.

Clinical Nursing Experience : Typically, a minimum of 5-10 years of nursing experience is required, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership role.

Risk Management Experience : Previous experience in healthcare risk management, quality assurance, or patient safety (usually 3-5 years).

Leadership Experience : Proven leadership experience in managing teams, healthcare projects, or risk management initiatives.

Knowledge of Laws and Regulations:

Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare laws, including HIPAA, Joint Commission standards, OSHA, and CMS regulations.

Medical Malpractice Laws , incident reporting, and root cause analysis (RCA).

Patient Safety & Quality Improvement Methodologies.

Analytical Skills : Ability to assess risk data, identify trends, and implement proactive risk reduction strategies.

Must be a US Citizen or Authorized to Work in the United States

SKILLS:

Skills and Abilities Required for Director, Medical Risk Management

Demonstrates knowledge and ensures compliance with The Joint Commission.

Demonstrates compliance with hospital policies and procedures at all times.

Demonstrates strong leadership, organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrates ability to relate to clinical personnel and medical staff, as well as ability to interact well with the public.

Must have knowledge of PC and applications.

Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.

Thorough knowledge of hospital policies and procedures. Application of techniques such as RCA, FMEA, and other quality tools.

Must possess a detailed, in-depth knowledge of the principles of regulations and standards to meet hospital, licensing, and accreditation.

Knowledgeable regarding Joint Commission Standards and CMS/DHS Regulations.

Understanding of statistical analysis. Six Sigma ("Lean") knowledge preferred.

Director, Medical Risk ManagementThe Director of Risk Management is responsible for the ongoing, effective operation of various patient safety and risk management activities. Such responsibilities include but are not limited to: performance and oversight of the claim management functions including investigation and analysis, performance of risk assessments including new services, performance of root cause analysis for the system including action plan tracking and facilitation, and management of the Patient Safety Council with incorporation of the corporate TERM program into the overall risk management program. Works collaboratively with department directors and the executive team to implement Corporate and Facility risk reduction strategies. Provides expertise to regulatory and compliance standards and processes. Position entails data analysis, reporting, educating, providing leadership and being accountable for related activities.
