The DarkStar Group is seeking an ETL Software Engineer with a TS/SCI clearance to join one of our top projects in Ft. Meade, MD. Below is an overview of the project, as well as information on our company and our benefits.

THE PROJECT

The DarkStar Group's team focuses on the development of discovery and automation tools that enable geospatial and other types of intelligence analysis of a varied set of data types and data sources. The team is multi-disciplinary and highly collaborative, with GIS Software Developers, Big Data Software Engineers, Full Stack Software Engineers, Data Scientists, and Data / ETL Engineers, all working closely with end users / analysts. The program includes custom-written software (in Java, Python, R, and/or other typical data science / data analysis languages) and big data technologies (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Accumulo, Elasticsearch, etc.), with extensive work on extracting, manipulating, and visualizing data that is needed for national security missions. All of the software runs on AWS/C2S and other cloud infrastructure.

Work on this program can be done from Chantilly, Herndon, Springfield, and potentially other areas in Northern VA (we cannot support remote work). A TS/SCI is required, and a willingness to obtain a CI Poly is strongly preferred.

THE ROLE

The DarkStar Group is seeking an Extract Transform Load (ETL) Software Engineer to join our team supporting a user base with a mission to solve unique and challenging problems in support of national security. We are seeking an engineer who embraces technology and thrives on the art of the possible. The ideal candidate will be part of a small multi-disciplinary software team and have the unique opportunity to interact directly with users and other technologists to ensure solutions, development, and tools meet the needs of the customer.

Principal Responsibilities:

Create discovery and automation tools to enable geospatial and intelligence analysis of complex problems utilizing an array of data types and sources.Develop enabling software solutions using a variety of scripting languages that address real-world user requirements; write and debug custom code and create user documentation.Monitor and understand high-level operational geospatial processes.Communicate with multidisciplinary teams and articulate technical concepts and ideas effectively.Required Skills

4+ years of technical experience in

development, support, and maintenance of ETL applications to develop custom software solutionsperforming data extraction, manipulation, and visualization with proficiency in NiFi, Java, Python, R, Javascript, and/or databases

Capable of working effectively with a geographically distributed ops & development teamCommunicates effectively with customers and team in written and oral forumsWillingness to work onsite 75% or as needs dictateDegree or equivalent demonstrated experience in a technical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Math, GIS.Desired Skills (Optional)

Familiarity with concepts such as Data visualization; Data management, Data integration, User Interface, DatabasesStrong Linux skills and familiarity with hybrid cloud/on-prem architecture, AWS, C2S, Openstack, etc.Experience with some big data technologies such as ElasticSearch, Kubernetes, Spark, Hive, and/or Hadoop, AccumuloExperience with GIS data and tools for GIS analysisAn adaptable and solution-centric mindset that embraces technology enablers.Familiarity with common industry software tools, concepts, and DevSecOpsExperience working with open-source resources in a government computing environmentCan work independently in a fast-paced dynamic environment, with factory reach-back support.Experience as a military/intelligence analyst, supporting the military/IC, or knowledge of some IC PED systems is a plus!About The DarkStar Group
