ICMA is currently seeking a Staff Accountant to provide support to ICMA's internal and external customers, perform day-to-day accounting functions, and assist with month-end and year-end financial close. The position's responsibilities include financial reporting, recording transactions and accruals, balance sheet accounts reconciliation, fixed assets, and investments. The position is responsible for the effective and efficient management of ICMA resources, accurate financial reporting, and accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the organization's policies and internal controls. The ideal candidate must be willing to commute to our DC Headquarters office up to two days a week. The Staff Accountant salary is based on experience level and ranges between $62,442 and $74,930. The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller. What You'll Do Prepare daily cash receipt entries for incoming checks, ACH, and wires; process credit card payments; and maintain records of accounts receivable and bank deposits. Review and post daily batches of transactions recorded in the Association Management System (netFORUM); ensures transactions are recorded and accounted for in the appropriate accounting period; interfaces the entries to the financial system (Deltek CostPoint). Perform customer billing, collection of payments, and resolve billing discrepancies as they arise. Generate monthly customer e-Statements via the Association Management System (netFORUM). Prepare monthly journal entries to defer/recognize expense/revenue appropriately for balance sheet accounts, records depreciation and dispositions for fixed asset accounts, and records investment gain/loss for investment accounts. Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax filings, and ensure complete maintenance of the organization's sales and use tax exemption certification renewals with various states. Reconcile balance sheet, fixed assets, and investment accounts; research and resolve any discrepancies as needed and ensure the reconciliation files are updated monthly to be used ultimately in preparation of audit schedules at year-end. Prepare audit schedules in accordance with the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Assist in developing and implementing accounting procedures by analyzing current procedures and recommending changes. Provide overall support and address finance-related inquiries from ICMA staff and external customers. Assist other team members as needed during busy periods, i.e., providing support in accounts payable, ICMA online bookstore, and other accounts receivables duties assigned. What You Need To Be Successful In This Role Bachelor's degree in either Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field. 3+ Years of active bookkeeping/accounting experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of basic accounting procedures and general ledger accounting. Knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analysis. Meticulous attention to detail and follow-through. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently or collaboratively as appropriate for the assignments. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Demonstrate a high standard of integrity and sound business ethics. Interpersonal skills to work with staff, ICMA vendors, and members with professionalism and consistent levels of customer service. Proficiency in Accounting software systems and database skills. Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel. This position is based out of ICMA's headquarters, located in Washington, D.C. At this time, all ICMA staff are working remotely. The selected individual must be able to work the core business hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm EST. Our office will remain operational and accessible for staff to use on a voluntary basis. A high-speed Internet connection is required. Personnel will provide the Internet service at their own expense. The internet connection must be of sufficient bandwidth to allow the team member to efficiently perform their regular job functions.
