A lab technician/manager position is available in the lab of Professor Michael Dawson. This position is to support comparative population genomic analyses of multiple coastal marine species with the goal of describing the historical dynamics (e.g. demography) and current sources of geographic structure within and among species and the communities of which they are a part. The lab wishes to understand associations between organisms, drivers of ecological dynamics, and the implications of the modern distributions of genomic variation for conservation in a changing seascape. The principal duties are:Coordinating and scheduling fieldwork and meetingsSpecimen collection, cataloguing, curation, and databasingDNA/RNA purification, quantificationSequencing library preparationSequencing and data curationParticipation in lab and project management and meetingsOther potential activities include:Assisting in preparation of reports, manuscripts, and grant proposalsCo-authoring oral and poster presentationsSupervising and training undergraduate studentsOther tasks as required to accomplish the preceding duties.Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:B.S. in a relevant areaKnowledge of and experience with wetlab techniques for DNA analyses and sequencingAbility to effectively manage tasks, things, and timeDemonstrated ability to work as a team memberWell-developed communication skills (esp. verbal, also writing)Preferred Qualifications:M.S. in a relevant areaPerspective consistent with UC Merced's mission to strive for excellence in teaching, research and public service, benefiting society by discovering and transmitting new knowledge and functioning as an active repository of organized knowledge; as a key tenet of this mission, UC Merced promotes and celebrates the diversity of all members of its community.Application Requirements
