We are proud of our diverse population, our dedicated employees and volunteers, our cultural opportunities, and our vibrant quality of life.Job Description:Position: Full Time - Server Administrator (IT Grade 3)Location: Information Technology CenterDate Opened: September 12, 2024Date Closed: Until FilledPosition Type: Full Time Union BenefitedSalary: $84,089 - $107,000 - 8 Step ScaleEssential Duties and Responsibilities:Performs professional and technical work providing hardware and software support to City and School Departments.Provides technical hardware and software support for various operating systems; monitors operating system performance.Controls security access to services and provides technical support for connectivity to the servers whether physical, hybrid, or cloud-based systems.Maintains software.Evaluates and reviews computer applications.Installs new computer hardware and software designed to work on various operating systems.Evaluates and corrects hardware and software failures and interfaces with support vendors.Updates and enhances computer equipment and software in City and School Departments.Provides assistance and training to users; helps users with new features and tools associated with server-related improvements or upgrades.Evaluates and implements desktop changes related to the server products.Is familiar with technical hardware inventories and makes use of tools necessary or related to the job as needed.Makes recommendations to correct program errors; tests, corrects, and debugs operational documentation and procedures.Establishes operational standards; monitors vendors.Designs server farms/rooms for support of city applications to include proper storage space, environmental (HVAC/power) needs, and backups of data.Documents all locations of related equipment.Performs all server administrative tasks, to include, but not limited to installing, configuring, setting up backups and restoring them, reorganizing, running utilities as well as finding and solving problems.Actively participates in ongoing education and training required by the Department related to modernization and evolving technology.Performs similar or related duties as required or as the situation dictates.SUPERVISION:
Works under the general direction of the Director of the Information Technology Center; the employee functions independently, referring specific issues to the supervisor only when clarification or interpretation of policy or discussion of a technical matter may be required; considerable independent judgment is required to provide professional advice; technical expertise is required to apply standard professional techniques. Supervisory Responsibilities: Does not generally supervise other employees.Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree desired in computer science or a related field; A+, N+, Server +, MCSA, MCSE certifications preferred, five years of server building/maintaining experience and related technical experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY AND SKILLS:
Thorough knowledge of information technology and general networking skills, advanced operating system, storage, and general system analysis required; general knowledge of applications and policies, particularly those for use in local government also imperative. Ability to identify and solve a range of problems; ability to provide technical support; ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form; ability to explain technology to system users is also extremely important. Excellent communication and public relations skills as well as applying technological solutions to local government problems.Physical Demands:Minimal physical effort is required to perform most duties; some duties require moderate effort. Required to stand, walk, sit, speak, hear, use hands to operate or repair equipment as well as operate an automobile. Vision requirements include the ability to read/analyze documents and use computers.The work environment involves everyday discomforts typical of a municipal office setting.
Interruptions, noise or physical surroundings may be distracting, but conditions are generally not unpleasant. Daily work is subject to unplanned events, such as system emergencies; operates standard office equipment and operates an automobile; has regular contact with City and School system sr. staff, and general staff. Works closely with supporting vendors, suppliers, and consultants.
