Position Summary
The Marketing/Public Relations Professional’smain responsibility in the Center for Food Safety is promoting accomplishments of researchers and leading public relations with private and public sector stakeholders. This position leads CFS’ efforts to promote research discoveries, establishes and maintain media relations, and contributes to coordinate CFS’ engagement with diverse audiences. This position works closely with the Center’s director to support strategic initiatives.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
Experience in public relations with diverse audiences and writing feature and news stories for different media outlets and social media
Ability to multi-task
Ability to communicate clearly and professionally
Possess strong organizational skills
Knowledge about researching, writing strategies and editing of diverse articles
Familiar with web content and website design and architecture
Experience drafting science stories intended for social media and newsletter distribution
Duties/Responsibilities
Oversees and independently manages operation of public relation functions of the UGA Center for Food Safety, which includes serving as assistant to the Center Director to support him with daily operational tasks and event organization with Center’s stakeholders.
Works closely with Center Director to direct strategies for outreach activities with food industry representatives and government officials and scientists.
Identifies opportunities for increasing the number of companies affiliated with CFS.
Participate in the research, writing, and publishing of feature stories about our Center and our faculty for news releases and for posting in other media.
Collaborates directly with faculty to identify discoveries and scientific breakthroughs to develop stories for the traditional and social media outlets.
Proactively investigate emerging food safety issues for showcasing the work taking place at CFS.
Developing and maintaining CFS social media participation.
Development and updating presentation and promotional materials.
Supporting Center for Food Safety’s marketing efforts and coordinating with other academic units and the college.
Drafting and producing Center for Food Safety’s newsletter to be circulated among stakeholders.
Website design and content development. Updating stories and news feeds as well as writing just-in-time content.
