Database Administrator (DBA)

As NinjaTrader’s Database Administrator (DBA), you will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of our databases, both on-prem and in a cloud environment. NinjaTrader is one of the largest retail futures platforms in the world with thousands of transactions per second. This role will involve designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable database systems, ensuring that data is stored securely, organized, replicated appropriately, and accessible to users as needed.

In this role, you will:

Undertake complex database projects requiring specialized technical knowledge. Make well thought-out decisions on complex or ambiguous database issues.

Provide technical database expertise for maintaining performance and reliability of database solutions.

Maintain the production database health and perform end-to-end DBA activities.

Solve database issues and provide solutions for resolution.

Collaborate with teams to integrate data across multiple systems.

Develop and maintain scripts for the automation of database tasks.

Implement and maintain database security and access controls.

Monitor database performance and optimize the database for efficiency and scalability.

Develop and implement database backup, periodical database audits, and recovery strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

Support day-to-day operations and management of highly available, high throughput, enterprise-level production database instances across multiple development environments (e.g. testing, staging) and 24/7/365 production environments.

Manage the backup and recovery program including performing manual and scheduled/automated backups and restores of production and non-production databases.

Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans and high availability strategies.

Implement and manage data encryption, access controls, and auditing processes.

Develop and enforce database policies, procedures, and standards.

Analyze and optimize query performance, indexing strategies, and database configuration.

Collaborate with development teams to optimize database interactions and improve application performance.

Troubleshoot and remediate incidents, sharing in on-call rotations.

Job Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or a related field.

5+ years of experience working as a Database Administrator, with focus on relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or SQL Server.

Familiarity with cloud-based database solutions (e.g., AWS RDS, Azure SQL Database, Google Cloud SQL).

In-depth, practical knowledge of data management practices such as Data Replication, Backup, Database Security, Encryption, Compression and Data Masking/Redaction.

Experience with large scale migration, consolidation, and implementation of data.

Experience with High Availability (e.g. Maximum Availability Architecture), Disaster Recovery Planning and replication strategies.

Familiarity with enterprise SQL, database monitoring tools, query performance tuning.

Advanced knowledge of relational database technology and ability to accurately communicate database technology to others.

Excellent verbal/written communication skills and documentation/knowledge management skills.

Relevant certifications (e.g., Oracle Certified Professional, Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator) are a plus.
