Job SummaryThe Infrastructure Engineer III is responsible for the operation, implementation, and maintenance of an existing service provider network. Duties will include network capacity planning and implementing ongoing network architecture improvements in a data center environment. Infrastructure Engineers work on a team performing both new customer activations, customer network architecture design and integration. This individual will have a strong ability to translate business requirements into technical requirements and anticipate end-to-end network infrastructure needs. Engineers work internally and externally with IT support team(s) and/or partners as part of an IT networking consultancy with client. This individual must possess high level knowledge in Cisco networking, Windows and Unix server administration, storage area networks, and virtualization technologies. The Infrastructure Engineer III serves as a support level for troubleshooting networking issues escalated from the Atomic Data NOC and infrastructure engineers.
Essential Functions
Back up network data
Configure security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals
Analyze and report network security breaches or attempted breaches
Identify the causes of networking problems, using diagnostic testing software and equipment
Document network support activities
Configure wide area network (WAN) or local area network (LAN) routers or related equipment
Install network software, including security or firewall software
Troubleshoot network or connectivity problems for users or user groups
Provide telephone support related to networking or connectivity issues
Evaluate local area network (LAN) or wide area network (WAN) performance data to ensure enough availability or speed, to identify network problems, or for disaster recovery purposes
Analyze network data to determine network usage, disk space availability, or server function
Perform routine maintenance or standard repairs to networking components or equipment
Configure and define parameters for installation or testing of local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), hubs, routers, switches, controllers, multiplexers, or related networking equipment
Install new hardware or software systems or components, ensuring integration with existing network systems
Test hardware using standard diagnostic testing equipment and procedures
Install or repair network cables, including fiber optic cables
Monitor industry websites or publications for information about patches, releases, viruses, or potential problem identification
Create or update technical documentation for network installations or changes to existing installations
Train users in procedures related to network applications software or related systems
Install and configure wireless networking equipment
Maintain logs of network activity
Document help desk requests and resolutions
Research hardware or software products to meet technical networking or security needs
Create or revise user instructions, procedures, or manuals
Run monthly network reports
Serve as an escalation point for troubleshooting of complex networking related issues in a service provider environment
Design, configure, and install custom infrastructure solutions for Data Center and network customers
Design, operate, and optimize existing Cisco network interconnecting multiple Data Centers with customer locations and the Internet
Design and implement custom security policies on new Cisco ASA series firewalls in multi-context mode to support customer VPNs, protect customer servers, and provide dynamic failover in both stand alone and shared environments
Design and implement MPLS services in to expand existing MPLS backbone and interconnect customer locations with Data Center resources
Configure customer facing network ports on new Cisco network equipment including: T1, Multilink PPP T1, T3, Metro Ethernet, Ethernet; provide onsite support for testing and day one go-live
Deploy and perform advanced maintenance on Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls
Provide internal level 3 support of EIGRP, BGP, and OSPF routing
Provide internal level 3 support of layer 2 switching
Troubleshoot and implement copper and fiber interconnections in a datacenter environment
Provide internal level 3 support of leaf-spine architecture
Provide advanced technical direction and leadership to the level I/II network administrators/engineers through the planning and implementation processes
Ensures availability for rotating on call schedule
Design and train on general datacenter/network operations for SOC-compliant facilities
Maintains network capacity and availability
Attends to obligations and supports other company initiatives as directed
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Engineering, Mathematics, or Computer Science
CCNP certification or higher knowledge of router and switches
CCNP Security certification preferred
CCIE (or in-progress)
Advanced knowledge with 10+ years’ experience in a high-performance infrastructure engineering environment with direct support and network services engineering responsibilities
Hands-on experience with the following: Cisco ASA Firewalls and Cisco X-series ASA Firewalls with Firepower services, 2960/2960S/2960X/2960XR Cisco Switches, 3560/3750/3650/3850 Stack Cisco Switches, 720x/2900/3900/4400 ISR Series Cisco Routers, 7600/6500 Series Cisco Chassis Route Switches, and Nexus 5k/3k/9k Series Switches.
Proven experience with service provider protocols such as: BGP, EIGRP, and MPLS
Knowledge of Low Voltage wiring standards including both copper and fiber
Knowledge of power & cooling implementation in a datacenter environment
24x7 operations experience required
