The Senior Director will collaborate across offices, divisions, and departments to lead the planning and execution of District-wide professional learning through the "Yearlong Scope and Sequence" (YLSS). They will coordinate the vision of the YLSS amongst senior leaders in various departments to identify goals, strategies, and professional learning that will drive culture, academic and instructional improvement, in alignment with District goals. The Senior Director will also support district departments' design and implementation of high-quality professional learning grounded in DPSCD's mission, vision, values, and the highest standards for each profession by modeling effective design and facilitation, collecting and reporting on data related to professional learning, and coordinating excellent operational support. Additionally, they will lead the process to recognize educators of the year, manage and track external professional development requests, and ensure professional growth systems are operationally efficient and contribute to the development and retention of effective employees in all employee groups (e.g., hourly support staff, instructional, central office, etc.).As a member of the Office of Human Resources Management Team, the Senior Director manages and evaluates team members and acts as a departmental representative in internal and external settings, as needed.Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution, Master's Degree preferred.Minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience or a combination of teaching and administrative experience with a proven track record of leading students to achievement gains; three (3) years of experience coaching employees and/or designing and leading professional learning for adults in a K-12 setting; at least three (3) years of experience working directly with senior-level leaders (preferred).Experience as a school-level or central office leader strongly preferred.Demonstrated experience managing complex projects and initiatives and successfully managing staff.Demonstrated experience designing and facilitating high-quality adult professional learning.Demonstrated experience managing complex projects to completion.Demonstrated proficiency with Office365 applications including SharePoint, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook; experience with PowerAutomate preferred.Demonstrated knowledge of MDE's State Continuing Education Clock Hours (SCECH's) requirements, reporting, and compliance systems.Essential Functions:Collaborate with senior District leaders to ensure that annually, the Yearlong Scope and Sequence for Professional Learning is developed, refined, and executed.Model effective design and facilitation of Professional Learning; develop templates and tools to assist administrators with the design and facilitation of effective professional learning.Lead the collection, analysis, and reporting of key data related to the effectiveness of professional learning and its effects on key metrics related to employee engagement, performance, retention, and advancement; ensure regular reporting for Professional Growth-related initiatives is timely and accurate.Establish and meet annual objectives and key results (OKRs) for professional growth initiatives.Collaborate with leaders in other departments to assess professional growth needs for employees, take stock of current professional learning opportunities, and make recommendations for improvement based on data.Lead the development and management of the Year Long Scope and Sequence and lead the maintenance of the YLSS SharePoint site.Coordinate and lead planning and development meetings aligned with Year Long Scope and Sequence.Collaborate with department leaders to create agendas for role-specific meetings aligned with the Year Long Scope and Sequence.Conduct ongoing engagement with staff across departments and employee groups to assess the efficacy of current professional learning opportunities and needs for improvement.Maintain thorough records and documentation of work on assigned projects and ensure resources are accounted for accurately.Supervise, support, coach, and evaluate full-time and part-time Professional Growth team members, setting clear expectations and developing staff through job-embedded professional learning experiences.Collaborate with other Human Resources teams, including recruitment and staffing, to support onboarding and induction for new employees.Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Talent Pipelines and Professional Growth.Security Clearance:Internal Applicants: If you are a current Detroit Public Schools Community District employee, you do not have to submit to a new security clearance unless your new role requires a different type of criminal background check.External Applicants: In alignment with Michigan law, if you are hired to fill a position, you will be required to submit to a Detroit Public Schools Community District criminal background check.
