Lurie Children's Hospital of ChicagoJob Description:Vascular Access NurseCome grow with us and we start our own PICC team with pediatrics in a world-class facility.Schedule: 36hr/week, Nights, 3-4 shifts/weekMust have at least 1 year of RN experience.This professional provides the service of vascular access and care to all inpatients in need of establishing access for intravenous (IV) therapy. Responsibilities include:Starts peripheral IVs, including long PIVs, extended dwell catheters, and bedside midline catheter placement.Provides dressing care for central and peripheral venous access lines.Performs arterial blood draws when appropriate.Trains other professionals in vascular access skills.Participates in monitoring and data compilation for vascular access information.Essential Job Functions:Peripheral Vascular Access:

Coordinates with the patient's nurse and Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP) to determine the purpose for the service and the type of device needed.Central Vascular Access:

Performs repair of central venous access lines as needed.Arterial Lab Draw:

Coordinates and consults with the patient's nurse and LIP.Clinical Expertise:

Serves as the clinical resource and expert for vascular access throughout the hospital.Performance Improvement:

Collects and compiles daily data to provide records of vascular access team activities.Education and Training:

Provides teaching on vascular access and related skills to nurses and physicians.Patient Safety:

Checks physician orders, verifies patient's identity prior to any procedure, and assesses for allergy history.Additional Duties:Others duties as assigned.KSA's:Bachelor's degree in nursing or higher required.Current licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.Ability to effectively communicate with patients/families, physicians, and hospital staff.Education:
