This position is represented by SEIU Local 2007 and the collective bargaining agreement between the university and SEIU Local 2007 governs the terms and conditions of employment.Position Overview:The Telecommunications Technician Lead is responsible for leading the in-field design, installation, and maintenance of sophisticated voice and data networks. This role involves providing advanced technical support for various communication systems, including Cisco Unified Communications, Nortel CS2100, Avaya S8730, Movius Unified Messaging Services, Always Accurate call recording system, Amcom Paging system, and wireless solutions. The position supports key Stanford entities such as Stanford University, Stanford Hospital and Clinics, Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital, and University Healthcare Alliance.Key Responsibilities:Lead and coordinate the in-field design, installation, and maintenance of voice and data networks, and IP video solutions.Act as the primary point of contact for scheduling, prioritizing, and managing daily activities with internal teams and external vendors.Ensure the successful implementation of operational and complex projects from start to finish.Foster teamwork and collaboration with IT Services teams, including IT Services Operations Center, Facility Engineering, Service Consulting, and Voice and Networking teams.Maintain a client-focused approach, communicating professionally with end-users at all organizational levels.Provide 24/7 on-call support with a 30-minute response time for after-hours issues.Support the CARDNet system and associated equipment, replacing switching equipment as necessary.This role demands a proactive leader with technical expertise, strong communication skills, and a commitment to ensuring the highest standards in telecommunications services.Characteristic Duties:Coordinate and guide the activities of technicians and other department personnel on multi-task and complex projects.Provide clear work instructions and specifications to team members.Motivate employees to meet quality and quantity standards, inspecting work for adherence to specifications.Assist supervisors in planning, scheduling, coordinating, and prioritizing work for other mechanics.Record and maintain information on work performed, inventory, and other relevant documentation.Research and procure necessary parts and spares, ensuring adherence to safety procedures.Train employees and ensure compliance with safety regulations and the University's Affirmative Action Program.Minimum Education and Experience Required:Technical degree and three years’ experience in voice, data service, cable television, card system and/or special circuit system areas or combination of education and relevant experience.Extensive experience in the installation and maintenance of voice and data systems, with at least three years of experience in communication project planning and execution preferred.Qualifications:Strong knowledge of analog and digital transmission techniques and interconnect methods, with the ability to train others.Proven ability to operate and diagnose technical test equipment and provide resolutions or recommendations.Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to build effective working relationships and exercise good judgment in organizing work and solving routine problems.Ability to design and terminate cable schematics for communication links using various media, including copper, coax, and fiber.Commitment to complying with all applicable environmental, safety, and health regulations.Current and valid driver's license required.Ability to obtain and maintain a California Non-commercial Class C Driver’s license and drive day or night.Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 70 lbs.Preferred Certifications:Cisco VoIPAvayaFiber: Fluke, Light Brigade, or CorningBICSI Certification: Installer Level II or higherLeviton and Systemax Contractor Connector CertificationNetwork trainingBroadband Digital InstallerAssociate of Science (AS) DegreeHigh School DiplomaValid CA Driver LicenseEmployees at this level do not have supervisory authority over other employees and are not expected to exercise independent judgment on final decisions regarding the quality or quantity of work produced by such employees, or personnel actions such as hiring, promotion, discharge, or disciplinary measures.Working Conditions:Exposure to excessive heat, cold, dust, asbestos and hospital conditions.May work at heights or in confined spaces.
