Health Information Management Director (Full-Time)

PositionHenderson Health Care Services, Inc. is seeking a full-time Health Information Management Director to join our team and oversee the daily operations of the Health Information Management (HIM) Department. Hours are full-time Monday – Friday, 40 hours a week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides oversight, guidance, and workflow for all HIM staff.

Identifies and implements changes regarding policy, productivity, and quality measures, and assures staff performance improvements related to workflow efficiencies and operations.

In coordination with CFO, recruits, interviews, and makes recommendations to fill personnel vacancies. Trains and orients new staff within the HIM Department.

Addresses personnel issues and procedural issues within the HIM Department.

Evaluates staff performance on an annual basis. Accurately measures and evaluates staff performance, behavior, productivity, and quality measures, and assures that staff is following and meeting departmental standards.

Responds to inquiries of staff, vendors, and the public for the purpose of providing information and/or direction, discussing and resolving issues and/or problems.

Serves as provider liaison to resolve any HIM-related issues.

Monitors, assists, and follows up with providers and other clinical staff in the completion of deficiencies in the medical record.

In-house expert on clearinghouse software, assisting staff in navigating and utilizing the system proficiently and to its fullest extent.

Develops new and maintains forms for the Health Information Management Department.

Ensures the security and confidentiality of medical record charts, promoting patient privacy among all staff.

Works with staff involved in the revenue cycle to ensure aged accounts are addressed and payment is obtained in a timely fashion, works with staff to research and respond to return to provider remittances as assigned and resubmit to insurance as needed.

Develops skill and expertise in working with the charge sheets and the chargemaster.

Works with staff to ensure pre-authorizations are obtained for required procedures, inpatient stays, observation stays, and obstetric deliveries. Works with HIM and clinical staff to obtain necessary information for preauthorization.

Oversees staff responsible for handling all medical record copy requests from outside sources to ensure requests are completed within the required timeframe, including documentation of completed requests in the facility HIM system.

Addresses overflow volume of billing and coding in any area of the campus.

Complies with and keeps informed of federal and state regulations regarding billing, specifically Medicare regulations.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related field. At least five years of experience in a healthcare facility with experience directly related to Health Information Management. Previous management or supervisory experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION

Certification accreditation as a medical record professional, Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT), or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), as determined by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
