Major Responsibilities:Prepare O.R. and Birth Center suites with anesthesia related equipment and supplies for all operating room/birth center procedures.

Check anesthesia machines for readiness/availability of accessories.Provide supplies specifically required as determined by acuity of case, age of patient, anesthesiologist preference.Check anesthesiologists' carts for proper drug/supply inventory.Cleans/disinfects/prepares for sterilization all reusable supplies.Set up for ECTs.

Ensure that appropriate inventory levels of anesthesia supplies are available.

Order and maintain established levels of stock for operating rooms and open heart.Assist in the preparation of drug orders and maintain established levels (also check for outdates).Routinely check all expiration dates of anesthesia items.Prepares and participates in annual inventory.Assure supplies are always available for off shifts.

Maintain anesthesia equipment and perform routine testing both in surgery, birth center, and ECTs.

Check and test anesthesia machines for cleanliness, damage, and availability of necessary accessories.Check monitoring equipment for proper operation (EKG machines, CO2 monitors, blood pressure cuffs, pulse oximeter).Check anesthesia carts for accessories, supplies, and drugs.Check anesthesia machines for proper operation.Clean hoses and ventilator filters.Clean and sterilize any reusable items.Perform terminal cleaning of anesthesia carts.

Provide technical support to surgical team during emergencies (e.g. obtain needed equipment and supplies).

Set up invasive/monitoring lines.Assist anesthesia with set up of supplies/equipment.Provide back-up at time of induction in order to respond to additional requests.Obtain additional supplies when necessary (i.e., blood, pharmacy).

Collaborate with other health care team members to provide for a cooperative working environment.

Assist anesthesiologist/nurse with delivery of care.Assist in open heart rooms and surgical heart unit.

Education/Experience Required:High school diploma or equivalent 1-2 years OR anesthesia supportKnowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:Obtain CPR within 6 monthsPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions:Exposure to blood/body fluids, radiation, anesthesia gases.Ability to lift and move equipment and patients with assistants.Ability to respond to emergent situations.Availability for all shifts.On-call availability.Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance.For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent.
