THE ROLE OF VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION

Reporting directly to the President, the Vice President of Finance and Administration will create a culture of responsible and transparent stewardship of institutional resources. The VPFA will align financial and administrative procedures with the University’s objectives and establish systems to ensure congruence between the University’s expenditures and student and faculty needs. The VPFA oversees the Business Office, Events & Conferences, External Contract Services, and Facilities.

As a key member of the University’s leadership team, the VPFA is expected to contribute in shaping SBU’s future direction and policies. The VPFA will engage and communicate effectively with all constituencies, including administration, trustees, faculty, staff, and students, and they will play a critical role in the development and construction of the campus. Traditionally, the VPFA has staffed the Finance, Audit and Compliance, Investment, and Facilities committees of the Board.

MINIMUM RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collaboratively design and implement both short-term and long-term financial plans.

Build, lead, and support a high-performing and dedicated finance team.

Develop and cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with academic, administrative, and support units across campus.

Appreciate and support the significance of Division I athletics and their impact on the University's financial health.

Proactively identify opportunities to advance SBU’s financial health using technologies.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS:

Strong record of strategic leadership and thought partnership in financial management.

Ability to articulate the University's Franciscan mission, traditions, values, and perspectives.

Proven ability to oversee the preparation and monitoring of financial reports, budgets, and financial projections.

Exceptional communication and active listening skills.

High level of cultural competency and a demonstrated commitment to the values of equity, inclusion, and social justice.

A baccalaureate degree is required and an advanced degree and/or comparable years of relevant experience in the field and at an institution of a similar size and mission, are preferred. CPA and/or MBA degree is also preferred. Experience from other sectors, in addition to higher education, is welcomed.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this role is $210,000 - 225,000 with a generous benefits package.
