As a result of internal succession planning, the company is recruiting for a strong Vice President, Corporate Controller to bolster its world-class Finance team. In addition to corporate controlling, this individual will have global responsibility for all financial planning and analysis (FP&A) activities as well as financial oversight of corporate strategy and related initiatives. This leader provides key, value-added financial and business decision-making insights to drive current and future financial performance and appropriate capital allocation strategies for the company.

Responsibilities

Provide support, advice and counsel to the Chief Financial Officer, Chief Executive Officer and other senior executives within Cooper Standard on a variety of financial and accounting activities.

Lead a team of approximately 20 finance professionals located globally, focused on a wide variety of financial planning and analysis and headquarter-related matters.

Ensure that a robust framework for analyzing the reasonableness of results is in place and that variances are researched, reviewed and understood, thereby helping to ensure that financial statements accurately reflect the financial results of the company.

Own and oversee the annual operating budget and long-range financial planning process.

Prepare and develop content for presentations and related materials for Board of Directors meetings and communications, as well as Board committee meetings.

Appropriately communicate monthly results to senior management and the Board of Directors, with a focus on proactive communication and minimizing surprises.

Work in strong collaboration and partnership with the Chief Accounting Officer and VP’s of Fluid Finance and Sealing Finance to ensure global consistency of reporting and analysis.

Oversee preparation of management’s discussion and analysis (MD&A) for quarterly SEC filings; build a strong relationship with Investor Relations and act as liaison between internal and external financial reporting.

Provide analysis and financial metric calculation integrity for executive compensation planning and results, including support for Compensation Committee.

Lead complex modeling and strategic initiative projects (including mergers and acquisitions/divestitures) to ensure robust framework and optimization of returns on invested capital.

Establish framework, procedures and enabling financial systems (i.e. Hyperion Planning) to drive standardization and governance of planning, analysis and reporting throughout the organization.

Provide financial support to all Corporate functions including budget development, forecasting, variance analysis and business decision making.

Direct reports include the Director, Financial Planning & Analysis, Sr. Manager, Financial Planning & Analysis, Sr. Manager, Commercial Planning, Director, Purchasing Finance and Manager, IT Finance.

Qualifications

The successful candidate in this role will have a minimum of 15 years of progressively increasing financial leadership experience (10 years being in direct management) in a company known for developing outstanding financial talent.

A minimum 10 years’ experience in the automotive industry. Exposure in a high-growth, multi-billion-dollar manufacturing organization is necessary.

Strong accounting skills and proficiency in US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.

Education credentials include a four-year undergraduate degree, with an MBA being particularly attractive.

Solid financial and operational accounting experience, including prior responsibility for leading facets of internal and external reporting, and consolidation activities.

Experience in strategic planning, coordinating P&L, forecasting and consolidating financial results/performance in a large public company.

Strong internal controls and systems oversight will be advantageous.

In addition to corporate staff experience, leadership roles in plant, divisional, group, and/or staff positions would be highly desirable.

Hands-on experience re-engineering/optimizing financial processes, including success in dramatically shortening time and improving financial close/forecast accuracy is crucial.

Global experience and a multi-cultural mindset are advantageous, with time spent working in international markets being particularly valuable.
