Job Summary and Description:

The VP, Finance and Accounting (VP, F&A) is the chief advisor to the EVP, Chief Financial, Risk and Operations Officer. This role partners with executive leadership to set and enable EPRI’s strategy and aligns operations to support the strategy. The VP, F&A oversees all activities and staff responsible for the finance and accounting operations of the company including but not limited to, the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and maintaining a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of EPRI’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. This function is the analytical engine of the company to provide insights and support optimal business decision making.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Management

Ensure the financial health of the Institute in areas such as: accounting, budgeting, strategic planning, internal and external reporting, investments, cash management, banking relationships, travel program management, contract financial terms and credit administration.

Establish and implement the Institute's financial and operational policies and programs and maintain appropriate internal control safeguards over the Institute's assets.

Develop the Company’s financial forecast, annual budgeting process, operating plan variance analysis, government-funded project finance activities, and special projects.

Provide a solution driven financial consulting approach and strategic direction and support to senior management including preparing presentations to management and/or the Board of Directors, capital expenditure analysis, industry/peer group comparisons, new business opportunities, and other projects requested by senior management.

Ensure the execution of monthly financial reports, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Billing and Accounts Receivable, cash management, and ensuring local, state, and federal compliance including Form 990 tax reporting, 2 CFR 200 “Single Audit” Government compliance audit, sales and use tax, payroll and property tax, federal and state government award periodic reports.

Oversee tax compliance for both the not-for-profit parent company and the for-profit subsidiary, including tax filings in multiple US and non-US tax authorities.

Develop policies, procedures, and practices related to Finance and Accounting functions and ensure that they are effective and efficient.

Analyze cash flow requirements for the Institute and maintain adequate liquidity that meets the business needs of the organization. Ensure compliance with the Investment Policy.

Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators including all areas of revenue, expenses, and capital expenditures.

People Leadership

Develop the finance and accounting leadership team to enable career progression and succession planning.

Hire, train, develop, and appraise staff effectively. Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy. Consult with Human Resources as appropriate.

Provide strong leadership to enable cross-functional change management.

Strategy and Innovation

Develop the infrastructure necessary to support EPRI's business strategy, driving finance and operations staff process improvements and leveraging financial systems to support a strong focus on internal controls, cost control, and a diverse, global business environment.

Provide leadership and guidance as the business process owner for EPRI’s ERP system.

Keep up-to-date on innovation, information, regulations, and technology affecting functional area(s).

Provide the vision for the continued development of Budgeting, Financial Forecasting and Strategy, Operating Plan, and Modeling tools.

Participate and drive strategic initiatives while also focusing on the execution and tactical deployment to support these initiatives.

Oversee the development of financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives.

Board and Committee Engagements

Partner with EVP, Chief Finance, Risk and Operations Officer on reporting and presentations for EPRI’s Board of Directors.

Partner with executive leadership to ensure strong governance and support the work of the Audit Committee of EPRI’s Board of Directors.

Education, Experience and Attributes

BS in Accounting or Finance; MBA Preferred.

CPA, CFA, or equivalent certifications.

Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a senior finance or accounting position.

Demonstrated track record of success in a leadership role and a focus on a culture of accountability.

Strategic planning, organizing, and directing finance, accounting, and treasury operations.

Process and detail-oriented, methodical, and proactive with a high sense of urgency.

Ability to motivate different stakeholders to work towards a common goal and influence/inform Technical and Operational Leadership teams.

Excellent collaboration skills.

Excellent presentation, PowerPoint, and Excel skills.

Financial management experience in both for-profit and not-for-profit industries and in a technical/R&D organization.

Strong business judgment, discernment, and ability to thrive in a dynamic business environment that includes both U.S. and non-U.S. entities and operations.

Excellent formal and informal communication skills, capable of communicating internally and externally across various disciplines and to individuals with varying degrees of financial experience.

Excellent financial and analytical abilities.

Experience in helping lead ERP/technology-driven transformation, specifically ERP.

Experience managing Board-level relationships.

Salary and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $251,750 USD to $294,000 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s standard employee benefit programs, which currently include the following: medical, dental, vision, 401k, STD/LTD and paid family leave, life and accident insurance, paid time off (flexible vacation, sick leave, and holiday pay).
