Job Title:Overhead Distribution Equipment Technical Leader

Job Summary and Description:The EPRI Distribution Systems Assets research team works at the forefront of medium-voltage utility R&D. This team executes projects that guide new equipment designs, improve reliability, and guide deployment of new technologies onto the distribution system.

This position works as part of the research team to understand how overhead distribution equipment performs, ages, and fails. Specifically, this role is meant to apply industry-leading electrical, mechanical, and materials engineering principles to overhead distribution equipment performance. This includes laboratory testing, failure analysis and forensics, and field demonstrations.

This research has elements of working with a team, as well as some work performed independently. Results from the research are shared with utilities across the world.

Responsibilities:

Understand how new technology can be applied on overhead distribution systems.

Help develop research plans to evaluate new technologies and approaches.

Perform laboratory and field testing, including data collection and analysis. This will require the ability to execute a test plan and operate laboratory test equipment safely.

Present research results and findings to utilities. This includes presentations, videos, web-content, and technical reports.

Our overhead distribution research focuses on the electrical and mechanical performance of overhead distribution equipment, such as overhead structures and their materials, pole hardware, conductor, connectors, transformers, surge arresters, and asset condition monitoring systems.

Additional Job Duties:

Ability to apply technical knowledge to industry issues and gain input on needs from members/stakeholders and identify current and emerging technical issues.

Develops research or services opportunities of value to EPRI members that fit EPRI’s mission and capabilities. This will include solving customer problems, producing insights and information vital to the members, and delivering information in a manner that members and customers can and will apply.

May provide oversight of a project team to assure technical and financial milestones are met.

Assists the EPRI sales staff in Member Services and EPRI International.

Broaden technical expertise and interface with national and international technical networks with manufacturers, consultants, and academia and research organizations.

Manages small or medium (less complex) projects including budgets and resources.

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in a technical field or equivalent experience required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

5-7 or more years of research and development project and promotional experience, including development of advanced concepts for internal research or equivalent experience.

Shows technical expertise in overhead distribution equipment and assumes responsibility for highly specialized technical objectives using creative imaginative solutions.

Experience in performing and/or managing research activities.

Incumbents must be able to exercise judgment, diligence, and attention to detail and demonstrate an aptitude for carrying out responsible technical assignments.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

Manages projects and may work in conjunction with a technical specialist.

Typically works as an individual contributor, may begin handling supervisory activities for lower level positions.

Compensation:The salary range for this position is $113,050 USD to $123,900 USD annually. This salary range is an estimate, and the actual salary may vary based on various factors, including without limitation applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This role is eligible to participate in EPRI’s annual incentive program. The amount of incentive varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the plan.
