Be in the Operating Room, without the DebtYou can experience the excitement of an operating room without having years of medical school debt to weigh you down. The Surgical Technology Associate Degree program will prepare you to perform various duties during surgery by assisting in the maintenance of an aseptic environment through a system of specific techniques and practices. You'll learn how to contribute to overall patient care as part of the surgical team by passing equipment and instruments to the surgeon, assisting the surgeon, selecting instruments for surgical cases, setting up cases, and assisting the circulatory personnel intraoperatively. As a Surgical Technologist, you could find employment in hospitals, clinics, or physicians’ offices. Hospital employment areas include operating and emergency rooms, labor and delivery, endoscopy units, central sterile processing areas, and ambulatory surgery centers. Daytime courses are offered on the Pendleton Campus, beginning in the Fall Semester.Annual drug screens will be conducted on new students entering the program. The cost for each student is $35.00 (subject to change) and is attached to the student’s tuition. Students should be prepared to present photo identification at the time of the screening. A 10-panel rapid drug screen (urinalysis) will be utilized. This test will be given prior to clinical rotations in the spring semester. Positive results may lead to withdrawal from the program.Program AccreditationThe Surgical Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP), upon the recommendation of the Accreditation Review Council on Education in Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (ARC/STSA).Check out area job openings, salaries and more.
