21LOCATION OF POSITION:Western Maryland Children’s CenterHealth Services18420 Roxbury RDHagerstown, MD 21740Main Purpose of Job:This position is responsible for the leadership, direction and implementation of appropriate health services for the adolescents at the facility within the guidelines of the Nurse Practice Act, DJS Standards, policy, procedure, and protocol.POSITION DUTIES:Candidate must be competent, knowledgeable, and skilled on basic adolescent health care, immunization administration, tuberculosis skin testing and interpretation, asthma care and delivery of nebulized asthma medication, diabetes care including administration of insulin, blood glucose monitoring and carbohydrate counting, venipuncture and specimen collection, first aid, physical assessment, health education, counseling on sexually transmitted infections, HIV and pregnancy prevention, and concise documentation in the medical chart and medication administration records.Nurses working at facilities housing female youth must be competent in chaperoning gynecological examinations and basic OB/GYN care and family planning.Plan, direct and supervise health care services and scheduling of employees in order to ensure consistent levels of care to youth.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:

Determined by the Maryland State Board of Nursing under the licensing requirements for Registered Nurses.Experience:

Three years of experience as a Registered Nurse to include one year in a supervisory, administrative or teaching capacity and two years in the Medical option.Notes:Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or a related field from an accredited college or university for one year of the required general experience.Candidates may substitute the possession of a Master’s degree in Nursing or a health related field from an accredited college or university for two years of the required general experience.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:One (1) year of experience providing medical services to a pediatric or adolescent population in a supervisory position.Candidates should possess strong communication skills - verbal and written.Candidate should have at least two (2) years of leadership experience.LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing or possess a current multi-state license in party states that candidates have declared as primary states of residence.Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile and will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete cardiopulmonary resuscitation training and maintain current certification.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.SELECTION PROCESS:Please make sure that you provide sufficient information on your application to show that you meet the qualifications for this recruitment.
