PURPOSE:The Test Systems Engineer works closely with the Engineering team, Engineering leadership and Program Management to understand the design, characterization, and verification requirements; design and develop automated data-acquisition and test systems using LabView; develop detailed characterization and qualification test plans, test procedures, and manage or execute tests.The individual is responsible for identifying / developing custom test systems and planning / leading various test and characterization events. The individual collaborates with internal stakeholders, government sponsors, subject matter experts, and is responsible for preparing test reports.DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:Requirements and Verification

Read and understand the product or Gentex performance specification (GPS), statement of work (SOW) and associated references.Work closely with systems and design engineers to understand requirements and how they are verified at system and component levels.

Test System

Responsible for design and development of custom test systems and fixtures using LabView.Responsible for identifying, sourcing and ensuring equipment availability for test events.Collaborate with development team to comprehend purpose / intent of test system.

Test Planning

Develop detailed test plans based on requirements and verification methodology.Ensure test coverage addresses defined performance envelope and operating conditions.Work closely with development team to determine and drive product availability for testing.

Test Reporting

Analyze and interpret test data using appropriate mathematical / statistical techniques.Perform and document non-test activities including analyses, inspections or demonstrations.Write clear and concise engineering reports to document component and product test results.Compile verification analyses, inspections, demonstrations and test reports into comprehensive qualification test / characterization reports (QTR).

Configuration Management

Maintain detailed records of test system configuration – software and hardware.Maintain detailed records of product configurations tested.Work closely with development team to understand program impacts of proposed changes.

Leadership

Lead and manage internal tests.Assist in developing basis of estimates (BOE) to establish scope, hours and scheduling.Assist engineers by reviewing internally generated test reports.Work to established project / program schedules.

EDUCATION:Required: B.S. Electrical, Biomedical, Mechanical, or Aerospace EngineeringPreferred: M.S. Electrical, Biomedical, Mechanical, or Aerospace EngineeringEXPERIENCE:Over 3 years of hands-on experience in military product development environmentDesign and develop software-controlled data-acquisition and test systems using LabView from UUT interfaces (sensors, power, JTAG, etc.) to test operator UI (LabView GUI)Write test plans, test procedures, test reports and manage internal test activitiesCharacterization of components or sub-systems to determine performance envelopData visualization and presentation of complex multi-variable datasetsPractical knowledge and understanding of software-controlled (LabView) electro-mechanical-pneumatic test systems, electrical / electronic systems, mechanical systems, and pneumatic systemsFamiliarity with respirator breathing valves, pneumatics, military specifications and AS9100.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:Develop specifications for LabView-based software-controlled data-acquisition and test systems (sensors, hardware, software, UI), materials, finishes, etc.Comprehend engineering drawings, electrical / electronic schematics, pneumatic schematics, basic engineering drafting practices, standards, and conventions (ASME Y14.5, ASME Y14-100, ASME Y14.24, ASME Y14.35, ASME Y14.34, DOD-100, and Global design / drafting standards).Understand product requirements and connect to purpose / intent for test cases.Scope and perform non-test activities; e.g. data analysis and visualization, inspection, demonstration.Strong understanding in power integrity, signal integrity, controlled-impedance, EMC / ESD.Experience with design for EMC / signal-integrity and mitigation techniques.Proficiency with lab instruments; e.g. o’scopes, DVMs, signal generators, spectrum analyzers, etc.Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project and Outlook.Expert writing skills to prepare clear and concise documents.Highly detail oriented in planning, leading and reporting.Strong communication and leadership skills in socializing documents for concurrence and approvals.Expert project management skills to manage entire design, development, and qualification activities.Self-motivated, results-oriented, able to work with minimal supervision in a diverse team environment.Familiarity with AS9100 procedures for Design Reviews, Inputs / Outputs, and New Product Introduction stage / gate process to ensure requirements are met.POSITION SUPERVISES:
