Technical Service & Development Engineer IILocation:
3700 Bay Area Blvd, Suite 680, Houston, TX 77058Duties:Manage and provide technical support to coating application development-related accounts, specializing in paper and packaging applications.Assist customers in solving process issues related to polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) in coating applications.Assist customers in developing coating formulations with PVOH for paper and plastic film substrates.Develop knowledge of curtain coating, metering size press coating, TAD and NTT tissue paper machines, and Yankee coating process.Develop and commercialize coating applications and new applications for PVOH products.Summarize standards and Food and Drug Administration regulations in coating applications for adhesives, polymeric coatings, polyolefin films, and paper/paperboard in contact with fatty foods and dry foods; as well as in recycling streams.Conduct laboratory work to support customers.Establish work procedures in laboratory evaluations.Increase the capability, knowledge, and resources of the PVOH Technical Services group.Work with colleagues to develop new product technologies to bridge the gap between existing products and the technical targets required by new applications.Develop a range of contacts in the packaging conversion industry and brand owners.Attend trade shows related to paper and packaging markets.Submit reports, including meeting minutes, weekly reports, etc.Requires up to 50% domestic and international travel.May telecommute but must reside near Houston, TX headquarters.Requirements:Requires Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in chemistry, materials engineering, or related field; plus 2 years of experience in job offered or similar occupation.Requires knowledge of basic structural and mechanical characteristics of PVOH and other resins, polymer processing technology, chemical and physical testing, regulatory affairs, and end-use applications.Also requires experience with paper or film coating industry and research and development experience, including new product development.
