We are looking for a highly talented Lead Clinical Research Data Architect to join our growing analytics team to support the development, implementation, and support of a robust Common Data Model ("CDM") platform. Throughout the institution, across the clinical, research, administrative, and operational domains there are many analytics customers who need access to accurate and consistently defined data to drive insightful analytics and support the broader research mission of the organization.

The Lead Clinical Research Data Architect is key to supporting a wide range of operational data needs, including setting up data pipelines and developing conceptual, logical and physical data models that facilitate high quality clinical data sharing internally and externally. You will excel at this job through collaborating with customers to truly understand their data needs, putting yourself in their shoes, thinking a few steps ahead of them in delivering high quality data models to clinical and research areas such as Pharmacy, Clinical Quality, Pathology, Hematology, Bone Marrow Transplant, Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases. You have some understanding of clinical and clinical research workflows and always willing to learn new business processes to truly understand customer's day to day operations and decipher how analytics will be able to serve them daily. You will also help mature the overall data and analytics technology platform and service delivery strategy that aligns with St. Jude priorities and promote an institution-wide data-driven culture.Your ImpactDeliver cutting edge and robust cloud-based common data model(s) to support analytics solutions across the clinical and clinical research portfolios.Become a trusted advisor to customers and consult on consistent and efficient ways to use data to solve problems and improve day to day research capabilities.Mature institution-wide data and analytics capabilities that drive self-service/self-sufficiency and facilitate greater access to research networks and programs.Some regular responsibilities might look like, but are not limited to,Understanding workflows, processes and terminology in the clinical and clinical research areas at St. Jude.Build partnerships with customers and collaborators across the clinical and clinical research portfolios.Collaborate with clinical and clinical research stakeholders, end users, leadership, and subject matter experts to understand current and future goals.Drive and participate in technical planning & requirements gathering phases including design, code, test, support, and document engineering software applications.Translate business requirements into technical specifications, including data streams, integrations, transformations, databases, and data warehouses.Review design with team members to ensure institutional data management framework is being understood, followed, and matured within a defined governance structure.Develop data integration pipelines from data sources to (and from) the Enterprise Data Warehouse - ETL/ELT.Map disparate data sources (including legacy clinical data systems), data movement, interfaces, and analytics, with the goal of ensuring data quality.Join robust Common Data Model (CDM) virtual communities and translate open-source systems and toolsets to the St. Jude technical environment.Track data quality, completeness, redundancy, compliance and improvement.Work closely with Solutions Architects, Business SMEs and other stakeholders throughout the analytics development lifecycle to ensure the delivery of robust and reusable data models.Communicate with customer, project team in a timely manner and escalates issues & risks appropriately.Minimum Education and/or Training:Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information science, business, or related field required.Master's degree preferred.Minimum Experience:Minimum requirement: 5+ progressive years of IT experience including strong database design, data architecture and data transform processes.2 years of exclusive data architecture experience.Experience with Common Data Platform (CDM) and Common Data Models like i2b2, OMOP, or PCORnet.Be versed in Cloud solutions (Microsoft Azure preferred, but familiarity with Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform, Snowflake cloud encouraged) or Big Data solutions and related technologies.Expertise in data architecture concepts such as data modeling, workflow management, ETL/ELT, real-time streaming).Working knowledge of medical vocabularies (ICD, SNOMED, etc.).Understanding data management and governance concepts such as data quality, metadata, dependency management, etc.Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.Willingness and ability to learn, adapt and apply new technologies.Preferred experience with Microsoft Azure/Synapse/Power BI and Epic EHR.CompensationIn recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
