The Financial Controller - Construction will work for one of New England's leading Construction Companies, based out of Portland, Maine. The client are an ESOP business with a great track record in Commercial and Industrial Construction, and they also have other divisions they are growing. Description

The Financial Controller - Construction will manage the daily activities of the Accounting department, reporting to the CFO and partnering with other Executive Level Leadership.

Responsibilities include overseeing regulatory and financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, payroll management, and establishing internal control policies and procedures. The role involves directing accounting functions such as general accounting, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The Controller will also review and analyze historical and current financial operations, trends, costs, revenue projections, and financial commitments. Additionally, the position requires managing ledger updates, report creation, and performance metrics.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Manage the organization's general ledger, budgeting and forecasting, cash flow, treasury operations, risk management, and tax planning and compliance.
  • Supervise project accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, including monthly project work-in-progress reports.
  • Hire, train, and develop accounting team members, providing mentorship and professional growth opportunities to ensure team engagement and goal achievement.
  • Establish and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate internal and external financial audits.
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP, payroll tax laws, and other relevant standards and regulations.

Profile

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Related Degree
  • Master's Degree/CPA preferred but not essential
  • 10 - 15+ years of progressive Finance Leadership tenure
  • Construction Industry experience a MUST
  • Systems/Software: Sage300/Timberline or similar
