Description

The US Retail Markets (USRM) Product Management Personal Lines Auto Underwriting Effectiveness team is looking for a Director, Product Research. The role will manage a team of analysts responsible for leading UW analytics across the full policy lifecycle, complex model calibrations such as cross-model optimization, and play a role in monitoring overall new business health.

This highly visible role is responsible for Personal Lines Auto for both Liberty and Safeco brands. Strong collaboration across Product and all USRM functions is required. This role will have senior management visibility and regularly present strategies & recommendations to both Product & wider USRM leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Manage team of 5 technical & experienced analysts, with indirect management of senior ICs across UW organization.
  • Draw from a highly technical data & complex analytics skillset to establish & maintain UW data for the full UW department, leading complex analytics across Risk Analytics, USDS, & State Management organizations.
  • Lead direction of large-scale, highly specialized CW UW strategies across all brands, channels, and states, influencing senior leaders (CPO, Product ELT, Distribution Channel leadership) on decisions that have significant impact on the PL Auto P&L ($100M+ annual top & bottom-line impacts).
  • Establish relationships and influence work with the Data Office, USDS, and Risk Analytics to develop methodologies for managing the business from an UW lens through highly technical analytical concepts.
  • Be fluent in Data Science concepts & deployment of advanced predictive modeling techniques such as Machine Learning, defining & leading how UW aligns with Responsible AI practices.


Qualifications

  • Master's degree or equivalent in mathematics, economics, statistics, or other quantitative field
  • Minimum 8 years, typically 10 years or more of relevant experience leading highly technical data & analytics initiatives, with significant exposure & experience with Data Science and Actuarial concepts. PhD beneficial.
  • Expert skills in Excel, PowerPoint, and data software packages (e.g., SAS, Snowflake).
  • Exceptional planning, analytical, decision-making, communication, and project management skills
  • Experience directly managing others preferred.
  • High-level knowledge of data sources, tools, and the business (lines, systems, pricing plans), predictive modeling, and code (e.g., SQL).
  • Significant understanding of competitors' pricing & UW strategies and relationship to our own.
  • Industry knowledge developed from internal meetings, news alerts, project-specific work, and proactive research into competitor strategies.
