Vice President of Finance - Construction

DEPARTMENT:

Accounting

REPORTS TO:

Ownership

WORK HOURS:

Mon through Fri 8am-4pm

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

The Vice President of Finance (VP of Finance) will be responsible for overseeing all financial aspects of the organization, ensuring its financial health, and aligning financial strategies with business objectives. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in financial management within the construction industry, demonstrating strong leadership, strategic thinking, analytical skills, experience in mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and the capability to drive financial performance in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Financial Leadership:

Develop and implement financial strategies to support the company’s growth and profitability goals.

Lead financial forecasting, budgeting, and financial planning processes.

Provide strategic recommendations to ownership and executive team based on financial analysis and projections.

Financial Management and Reporting:

Oversee the preparation of financial statements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Monitor cash flow, accounts, and other financial transactions.

Prepare and present detailed financial reports to stakeholders, including the executive team and board of directors.

Ability to roll up sleeves and work hands on when necessary.

Operational Efficiency:

Implement and manage robust financial controls, policies, and procedures.

Identify opportunities for cost reduction and operational efficiency improvements.

Oversee financial audits, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.

Risk Management:

Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate financial risks.

Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.

Manage insurance programs and liaise with tax and legal advisors as needed.

Mergers and Acquisitions:

Lead the evaluation and execution of M&A opportunities.

Conduct financial due diligence, valuation, and risk assessment for potential projects and acquisitions.

Develop integration plans and manage post-acquisition activities to ensure successful integration and realization of synergies.

Team Leadership:

Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.

Oversee recruitment, training, and development of finance staff.

Promote a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.

Project Financing and Management:

Evaluate and manage financing options for construction projects, including loans and investor relations.

Work closely with project managers to ensure financial aspects of projects are effectively managed.

Monitor project budgets and provide financial oversight on project progress.

Stakeholder Communication:

Serve as the primary financial spokesperson for the organization.

Communicate financial performance and strategic recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

Build and maintain relationships with banks, investors, auditors, and other financial institutions.

Capital Fundraising:

Experience with Capital Fundraising.

Fund Formation.

Fund Management.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field; MBA or CPA is preferred.

Proven experience (10+ years) in a senior financial leadership role within the construction industry.

Strong knowledge of construction accounting, project financing, and financial management practices.

Proficiency in financial management software and ERP systems.

Exceptional analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a finance team effectively.

Strong understanding of risk management and compliance in the construction sector.

Work Environment:

Office-based with occasional site visits as required.

Fast-paced, dynamic work environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.
