Job Summary: The Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment across campus buildings, including classrooms, dormitories, administrative offices, and athletic facilities. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems while adhering to industry standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

Install, troubleshoot, and repair electrical wiring, fixtures, and equipment in a variety of campus buildings.

Conduct routine inspections of electrical systems to detect and resolve potential issues before they escalate.

Respond promptly to electrical service requests and emergencies, prioritizing based on the urgency and impact on campus operations.

Perform preventive maintenance tasks based on inspections or work orders from the computerized Preventive Maintenance system, following manufacturer guidelines or exceeding them.

Maintain tools and supplies in an organized manner, ensuring they are readily available for maintenance tasks.

Collaborate with facilities staff to provide electrical support for campus events, projects, and initiatives.

Install temporary power supplies and electrical equipment for special events, focusing on the safety of personnel and surrounding areas.

Demonstrate thorough knowledge of electrical principles, codes, and regulations, including the National Electrical Code (NEC), ensuring all work complies with or exceeds regulatory standards.

Ensure all repairs are performed with high craftsmanship, paying attention to detail.

Maintain accurate records of work, including maintenance schedules, service logs, and equipment inventories.

Stay current with advancements in electrical technology and industry best practices, making recommendations for infrastructure improvements when applicable.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required.

Valid Virginia driver’s license required.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in the electrical trade.

Valid Virginia Journeyman Electrician license required; Master-level certification preferred. Out-of-state licenses may be considered based on reciprocity.

Proficiency in reading blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.

OSHA and first aid/CPR training preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

Ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, or crouch in confined or dimly lit spaces.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Capable of performing job duties in adverse conditions, such as inclement weather, high or precarious places, environments with toxic or caustic chemicals, or areas with a risk of electrical shock.

Comfortable working near moving mechanical parts, in high noise level areas, or in extreme heat or cold.

Ability to work from ladders, lifts, or other aerial equipment as needed.
