The ideal candidate has 2+ years of experience in the Commercial Real Estate industry, with a strong understanding of Yardi, and an emphasis in project accounting, lease accounting and fixed assets.

Job Details

The Senior Accountant is a vital role as we continue to acquire new properties and grow. The ideal candidate for this position would be a self-motivated, hands-on accountant with at least 4 years of experience and a control focused approach, an attention to detail, strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and multi-task, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Responsible for lease accounting transactions, including accounting for lease terminations and modifications; Monitors lease activity to ensure appropriate accounting
  • Prepares balance sheet account reconciliations and journal entries for the month-end close
  • Proactively manage the communication with property managers and asset managers to ensure a thorough understanding of property financials and upcoming changes
  • Review monthly property trial balances, map general ledger accounts, and record account activity in the general ledger
  • Review fixed asset purchases for proper capitalization and approval
  • Participate in the budgeting and forecasting process with responsibility for reviewing and analyzing budgetary information and coordinating the explanation of budget variances
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with GAAP
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes
  • Increase productivity by developing automated applications; eliminating duplications, coordinating information requirements
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers and other accounting and finance related professionals

Education and experience requirements:

?Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from an accredited university

?Minimum of 4 years of relevant accounting experience with 2 years of that being in commercial real estate accounting

?Public company experience is a plus

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a forward-thinking ‘can-do’ attitude
  • Extensive account reconciliation experience
  • Analytical, attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multitask and a team-focused approach
  • 2 years of Yardi and strong MS Excel skills
