Job Details:

Our firm is seeking an experienced, dynamic, and dedicated Associate Attorney to join our litigation team. This is a permanent position with a focus on Medical Malpractice and Personal Injury Litigation. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in civil litigation, with 3-5 years of experience in medical malpractice litigation, personal injury litigation, or civil litigation, and be accustomed to drafting, research, writing, taking depositions, appearing in court and should want to eventually try cases (if you haven't already). If you are passionate about the legal field and eager to make a significant impact, we would love to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and manage a caseload of civil litigation matters, which may include medical malpractice cases
  • Conduct legal research to support case strategy and preparation.
  • Draft legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and discovery requests.
  • Represent clients in court proceedings, hearings, and depositions.
  • Argue motions and present cases before judges and arbitrators.
  • Manage the discovery process, including drafting and responding to interrogatories, document requests, and requests for admission.
  • Conduct and defend depositions of witnesses.
  • Stay abreast of legal developments relevant to ongoing cases.
  • Provide legal analysis and opinions to clients and partners
  • Regularly communicate with clients to understand their goals and expectations.
  • Provide updates on case developments and strategy.
  • Participate in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution processes.
  • Evaluate settlement offers and advise clients on potential outcomes.
  • Mentor and junior associates

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice in the state of Michigan
  • 3-6 years of experience in civil litigation, medical malpractice or personal injury litigation.
  • Strong experience in drafting, research, and writing.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet or beat deadlines with no errors.
  • Should have a desire to eventually build a book of business, with the help of the firm and firm's network. (this is not a requirement for the job, but shouldn't shy away from wanting to build a client base)
