We are looking for a Principal Open World Designer to help us craft Blizzard’s next great game. As a key member of the development team, you will take ownership of building and leading a highly creative team, and be the point person owning gameplay, mechanics, and activities within our open world. A thorough understanding of creative world-building, artistic composition, boundless creativity, and fun gameplay is integral to crafting the player experience and telling the visual stories of our unique world.

This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, the home studio for this role is Irvine, CA.

What you bring to the table:

Priorities can often change in a fast-paced environment like ours, so this role includes, but is not limited to, the following responsibilities:

Defining and iterating on a collaborative vision for open world gameplay and content with creative and design leader.

Owning the creation and implementation of iconic and fun gameplay spaces, ranging from sprawling exterior zones to tight and intense claustrophobic interiors.

Support and help build a team, to own the creation of gameplay and content for a large game world that enables great gameplay and exciting exploration.

Creating large combat-AI play spaces and more, frequently owning the process from conception.

Partnering with art, design, and tech leaders to define and create both beautiful and world-class playable locations that effectively complement Blizzard's handcrafted level design.

Requirements

12+ years of experience in game development, or equivalent in a combination of education and work experience.

Proven experience leading design teams: have shipped at least one major title in a leadership capacity.

Demonstrated mastery of content design processes including, but not limited to, level flow, AI density, pacing, repeatable content, and storytelling.

Experience developing level/world concepts from inception to implementation in a clear, detailed manner.

Experience with AAA game engines.

Experience across a variety of platforms, particularly PC and console.
