The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is the nonprofit, applied research organization of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech). Job Summary

This position will define and direct the large-scale efforts and initiatives of the Network Support team. It will provide advanced level technical expertise and leadership for teams guiding the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of networked information systems. The position will manage multiple projects with significant or campus-wide scope, defining and securing resources and directing team efforts. It will be responsible for hiring, setting employee goals, and conducting performance evaluations. This position will interact on a regular basis with: Unit and OIT management and staff and campus IT leadershipThis position typically will advise and counsel: Unit management, team members, and campus IT leadershipThis position will supervise: Assigned staffResponsibilities

Job Duty 1 -Responsible for the daily support and maintenance of critical data networking systems (e.g. core routers and firewalls) including managing workload and delegating tasks to other team members.

Job Duty 2 -Supervise junior network engineers (daily workload, mentoring and teaching, performance evaluations, and feedback.)

Job Duty 3 -Provide management with updates and guidance regarding developments and issues with the networking technologies used on campus.

Job Duty 4 -Make certain that projects are completed consistent with applicable standards and best practices.

Job Duty 5 -Prepare and present project documentation to management and executive leadership as necessary.

Job Duty 6 -Research and evaluate new networking technologies and work with Network Support team and vendors to identify, test, purchase, and integrate these technologies into campus infrastructure as appropriate.

Educational RequirementsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

SKILLSThis job requires demonstration of a broad and deep level of knowledge in data networking. The individual should be recognized as an expert in multiple technical areas including but not limited to complex IP switching and architecture, routing protocols, firewall design and implementation, and WAN/ISP level networking. He/she must be able to engage in complex technical discussions with vendors and SMEs, not only in support of campus but also in conference and classrooms environments. Expertise should include string technical troubleshooting, problem-solving, strategic planning, staff management, and project management skills.USG Core Values
