Software Asset Manager- Global IT

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced software asset manager (SAM) to lead the governance framework and set of processes that strategically track and manage the financial, physical, licensing, and contractual aspects during the software asset life cycle. The SAM discipline aims to create a dependable account of software asset costs and risks, providing support for software strategy, architecture, service management, funding and sourcing decisions, as well as, compliance activities.

The Software Asset Manager role will utilize industry knowledge of software policies, procedures and compliance to help bring improvement and maturity to SAM processes used throughout the enterprise. This leader will be expected to work with other IT leaders to identify and assist in understanding and controlling their software licensing costs by leveraging industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:Lead the charge to evaluate, select and ensure an effective implementation of SAM strategies, tools and managed service providers, for the efficient management of software license inventories, software compliance, life cycle planning and costing.SAM plays an important role in the acquisition and disposal of software, including strategies to identify and eliminate under-utilized software, the consolidation of licenses, or the move to new licensing models.Evaluate cost optimization opportunities for on premise, SaaS and cloud deployment models aligned with business strategies.Develop and oversee IT policies and procedures to approve, acquire and provision licenses; and to track and report software consumption, entitlements and maintenance costs.Continuously monitor and assess the current effective licensing position. Drive optimization of that license position for proactive planning of renewals and / or new demand requests.Advise the relevant project, program, infrastructure, and application portfolio managers on software licensing and compliance, and recommend actions that will optimize the software asset portfolio in support of business objectives.Empower stakeholders by using SAM data to provide detailed information to make decisions on IT strategy and to support their business needs. Ensure transparency to all license entitlements and consumption data.Implement and manage production of software asset life cycle management status reporting, metrics and benchmarks to ensure that data required by stakeholders is gathered and shared appropriately, all cost and risk is correctly identified, and that mitigation and remediation activities are tracked and reported on.Implement routine vendor audit and review management processes to mitigate the risk of internal disruption and financial impacts resulting from audit activity, including automated data collection and entitlement reconciliations.Build software maintenance budgets and software-related detail in business cases and project budgets, to ensure that they comply with corporate policies, applicable standards and legislation.

Education & Experience:

3-5 years' experience in software licensing, purchases, compliance and negotiations related to enterprise software, SaaS, and other technologies. Solid understanding of software asset life cycle management processes, tools and technologies.Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Finance, Business Administration or equivalent technical / business qualification through experience.Strong working knowledge of the commercial attributes of software licensing models, cloud computing solutions and subscription-based agreements (specifically license types, maintenance categories and usage rights).Basic knowledge of software licensing model and terms for major IT software publishers; such as Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, and IBM.Understanding of the underlying problems with software contract entitlements and how the technologies of software discovery systems play their part in mapping entitlements with the inventory. Preferred experience with SAM Tools and managed service providers (e.g., experience with SCCM, Snow, or Flexera is a plus).Demonstrated ability to diagnose problem areas, identify improvement opportunities and implement realistic solutions within time constraints. Strong analytical, data processing and problem-solving skills.Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts and communicate with technical staff, business stakeholders and senior management. Ability to communicate the importance, relevance and benefits of SAM to all stakeholders in the context of their business priorities.Strong organizational skills with the innate ability to perform under pressure and to manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
