The Platform Engineer role is responsible for configuration, installations, and upgrades to troubleshoot and maintain the hardware and software within the current technology environment. The role involves troubleshooting basic issues and providing support to develop appropriate solutions to maintain the integrity of the platform, including hardware and software infrastructure that are critical to the company's user populace and application environments. They work closely with other IT professionals such as Application, Architect, and Database Engineers to ensure that all components of the platform are working effectively. The Platform Engineer uses strong knowledge of both traditional and modern platforms to assist in the smooth functioning of the company's infrastructure, including both cloud and on-premises systems, in support of DevOps efforts and general business and IT objectives. Build hardware configurations, software installations, network requirements and upgrades in alignment with business needs and the defined organizational standards Assist in troubleshooting issues by following user guides or manuals to improve platforms in alignment with application goals Provide support in configuring and integrating DevOps tools (such as API Gateway, Teraform) with other services such as authentication, caching, and logging to support processes as per organizational needs Work closely with DevOps engineering and production team to conduct testing on new features and services, and support production launches Refine and review templates and scripts to assist in implementing and maintaining automated fulfillment mechanisms to optimize delivery of key platform services Create prioritized team task lists and identify dependencies on other teams that work with a platform to ensure smooth operations Identify security threats and suggest remedial measures to comply with a strict security compliance Review and refine draft security and resiliency policies, standards, and procedures that forms the basis of protecting the infrastructure and ensuring compliance with regulations Provide support in producing high-level design documentation by taking responsibility for specific sections and ensuring their accuracy Compile data and preliminary research regarding user requests for new/modified systems or problem resolution Coordinate platform changes and customizations with vendors, ensuring clear communication of requirements Education Required Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or in lieu of a degree, at least 3 years of experience in the role of Platform Engineer or related position Preferred AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Required Knowledge & Experience 2-4 years of experience in platform engineering and infrastructure components Experience in automated interaction with physical infrastructure Moderate understanding of managing and maintaining cloud-based environments such as AWS, GCP, or Azure Familiarity with monitoring and log management tools such as Nagios, Splunk, and ELK Moderate understanding of developing and implementing backup and disaster recovery strategies Strong scripting experience in languages such as Python, PowerShell, and Bash Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and configuration management tools such as Ansible, Chef, and Terraform Technical Skills Programming Languages Cloud Technologies & Platforms Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) DevOps Methodology Software Packaging and Deployment Procedures Operating Systems Network Operations, Configuration, & Services Containerization Monitoring and Logging Integration Technology This position is not eligible for sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, including conversion to H-1B visa.
