TravelGeneral Information:Beds: 64 – spread across 2 floorsRequired experience?Intermediate/Stepdown Level RN: 1 year of nursing experience requiredWill you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, if greater than 1 year of experience1st time traveler MUST have EPIC experienceTravelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facilityPermanent staff must wait 1 full year before returning as a travelerPatient Types:This is a mixed acuity unit meaning there will be Intermediate Care acuity as well as Tele and MedSurg – please ensure traveler understandsSurgical: Urology, prostatectomy, bowel obstruction, mass removal, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, general abdominal surgeriesOrtho: Total joints (knees/hips/shoulders), Ortho Trauma – External fixation, soft tissue injury and minor fracturesNeuro/Spine:CVA/TIA with Neuro Vascular Intervention – coiling, clipping, potentially thrombectomy (may go to ICU but if they are stable could come back to ONS) – modified ratios with this patient (CRN/flex RN will help to manage in immediate post-op)Seizures/Epilepsy, brain tumor, hematoma, brain aneurysm, arteriovenous malformation, AV Fistula, craniotomies with burr holes and/or shunts, Halos, FlapsPlease note: post neuro-intervention is a preferred experience - education and resources are provided by the unit if they have not had this patient type

Spinal Surgical - Laminectomies, Fusions, DiscectomiesPlease note: post neuro-intervention is a preferred experience - education and resources are provided by the unit if they have not had this patient typeGeneral Medical: cellulitis, influenza, COVID, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure with or without the need for hemodialysis, hepatic failure, rib fracture, gastrointestinal disorders and infections, DVTs, UTIsWound care/Wound debridement, telemetry monitored patientsPatient Ratios:RN:PCU: 1:4 (even for MedSurg assignments)CNA: 1:8Required Certifications:RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSSRequired Education:RN: Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing;

Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of NursingSkills required:Intermediate/Stepdown RN:Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments – please decline if notPrevious experience with our types of patients above, including IMC/stepdown acuity and NeuroAbility to read/interpret cardiac strips, chest tubes, trach care (no fresh traches), NGT tube placement and management, JP drains, line management – PICC/Midline/CVL/PIV placement, wound vacs (Wound Care RN will change out the vac but RN must know how to assess and will need to change to wet/dry dressing in case of malfunction), wound care/dressing changes, medication administration, TPN/tube feeding, blood product transfusions, urinary and fecal collection devicesDrip titration of below medications:most commonly – Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), occasionally esmolol drips (will train if traveler has not done these) or other Betablockers or other antihypertensivesSupport on the Unit:Pod structure for the unit – 8 patients per pod; staffed with 2 RNs and 1 Nurse AideCNA: 1:8Charge nurse: Two charge nurses for ONS that do not take a patient load (1 dedicated to each floor)Flex Nurse – staffed daily 10a-10pPhlebotomy? Also, classroom time with our Nursing Professional Development Team.2 orientation shifts on the unit working with a preceptorScheduling:6-week schedulesWeekend rotation: Travelers could be scheduled for up to 4 out of the 6 weekends, which include Friday, Saturday and SundayPlease include in offer if traveler is open to working every weekend (WOW) as this may be a possibilityWill they be on call? No mandatory call time.

If it is an extra shift on top of their already guaranteed hours, and we have enough staff then they could be placed on call for that shiftHoliday Expectations: must be RTO request prior to offer – at this time Holiday RTO is not being acceptedApproval of time off? Able to approve 1.5 weeks off – must extend contract to accommodate a full 13-week contractBlackout dates from August 1-18th (exact dates change each year) due to our Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
