TravelGeneral Information:Beds: 36-48 (flex with semi-private rooms as needed)Required experience?PCU RN: 1 year of nursing experienceWill you accept a first-time traveler? Yes, if greater than 1 year of experience1st time traveler MUST have EPIC experienceTravelers must live 100 miles away from any Monument Health facilityPermanent staff must wait 1 full year to return as a travelerPatient Types:Mixed unit (Med/Surg to IMC level, as well as Long Length stay patients): ratios dependent on acuity90% MEDSURG; 10% INTERMEDIATE CARE - traveler will care for all acuity levelsCommon diagnoses include, but are not limited to:DKA requiring insulin drips, Pre/post-surgical patients, cellulitis, influenza, UTIs, pneumonia, COPD, CHF, renal failure with or without the need for hemodialysis, hepatic failure, gastrointestinal disorders and infections, soft tissue injury and minor fractures, and DVTs. Also, can see CVA overflow.We administer a variety of oral, IV, IM, and SQ medications, titratable vasoactive drips, TPN/tube feeding, and blood product transfusions.We manage peripheral IV, midline, PICC and central line access, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, drains, and urinary and fecal collection devices.We provide preventative and restorative skin and wound care.We also have telemetry monitoring that the nurses read and interpret.Patient Ratios:PCU RN will work through all areas below:Long length of stay (MedSurg/NO Tele) - 1:5-61 pod with 10-12 patientsMed Surg/Telemetry: (no IMC drips) – 1:52 pods with 10-12 patients eachIntermediate Care – 1:41 pod with 8 patients – this could be Med/Tele patients vs IMCRequired Certifications:PCU & Tele RN: BLS, ACLS, NIHSSRequired Education:Completion of a nursing education program that is approved by a board of nursing;

Registered Nurse (RN) - South Dakota Board of NursingSkills required:PCU RN:Comfortability to take MedSurg assignments – please decline if notPrevious experience with above-mentioned patients, including IMC/stepdown and neuro (can float to ONS); ability to read/interpret cardiac strips, wound care, line management, drain/tube management, drip titration of below medicationsDrip Titration: please ensure nurse is comfortable with the following – Heparin, Insulin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Levophed (up to 5 mcg), occasionally esmolol drips or other Betablockers or other antihypertensivesSupport on the Unit:CNA: Yes – Ratio 1:8Charge nurse: Charge nurse that does not take a patient loadPhlebotomy? YesIV/VAT Team? NoResource Nurse: NoRT: YesHospitalist: YesCharting System/Equipment:Epic – strongly preferred; must get approval from Manager prior to offerOmnicellAlarisFloating: If yes, where?Any Adult Inpatient Unit - Med Surg, Ortho/Neuro/Surgical, Heart and Vascular Unit, Oncology, ObservationCould be floated within scope of practice and belowWill float in rotation with other travelersOrientation: (facility and unit)Two days of unit/department orientation including policies, protocols, department information, online learnings.

Also, classroom time with our Nursing Professional Development Team.Two orientation shifts on the unit working with a preceptorScheduling:6-week schedulesWeekend rotation: Travelers could be scheduled for up to 4 out of the 6 weekends, which include Friday, Saturday and SundayPlease include in offer if traveler is open to working every weekend (WOW) as this may be a possibilityWill they be on call? If so, what is that schedule? No mandatory call time.

If it is an extra shift on top of their already guaranteed hours, and we have enough staff then they could be placed on call for that shift.Holiday Expectations: Currently not accepting RTO requests during holidays – send RTO requests to manager for approval around winter holidaysApproval of time off?

Ok to approve up to a week and a half – must extend if taking a full week off.

We do have blackout dates from August 1-18th (exact dates change each year) due to our Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
