Assistant Director of Strategic Programs and Education
at the National Women’s History Museum. In this pivotal position, you will lead and oversee a range of innovative educational programs and strategic initiatives, including the development of exhibitions, designed to engage diverse audiences both virtually and in person. With a strong commitment to women's history education, you will collaborate with internal and external partners to create impactful programs, develop exhibitions, and manage education team members to further the Museum’s mission.The position is based in Washington, D.C., but remote/virtual candidates are welcome with the understanding that domestic travel will be necessary. The Assistant Director of Strategic Programs and Education provides strategic program management and day-to-day oversight of educational initiatives aimed at engaging diverse audiences, including students, educators, families, and community groups both virtually and in person. The Assistant Director does this work in accordance with the vision of the department and the organization’s strategic direction. Current strategic initiatives include directing the K-12 education program and resource portfolio, directing the women's history education research portfolio, and managing the department's contributions to larger strategic public programs as relevant. The Assistant Director also contributes to other initiatives to confirm cohesion with departmental and strategic priorities, such as the exhibitions portfolio. Domestic travel will be required for exhibitions and departmental teamwork. This role is ideal for a dynamic individual who thrives at the intersection of education, history, and digital innovation. Reporting to the Vice President of Education, the Assistant Director undertakes departmental administrative duties and is committed to creating inclusive and accessible learning experiences for all.Key Responsibilities:Strategic Program Oversight - In collaboration with the Vice President of Education, provides day-to-day project management and strategic oversight of strategic programs and educational initiatives across all audiences.Program and Resource Development - Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to design, develop, and implement innovative educational programs, including workshops, lectures, tours, professional development opportunities, and educational resource materials.Outreach and Engagement - Cultivate relationships with schools, community organizations, and educational institutions to promote Museum programs and facilitate partnerships.Evaluation and Assessment - Develop evaluation metrics and tools to assess the impact and effectiveness of educational programs and use data to inform programmatic improvements.Budget Management - Manage program budgets, including grant funding, and ensure responsible stewardship of resources.Staff Supervision - Provide supervision, guidance, and/or project management to education program staff, interns, contractors, and fellows.Advocacy and Outreach - Represent the museum at conferences, symposiums, and other events to advocate for the importance of women's history education.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in education, museum studies, history, or a related field. Master's degree is strongly preferred.Minimum of 10 years of experience in educational program development, preferably in a museum or cultural institution.Strong knowledge of, or interest in, women's history and a demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in education.Experience designing and delivering educational resources and programs for diverse audiences, including K-12 students and educators.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.Proficiency in project management, budgeting, research, and evaluation.Familiarity with education standards, curriculum frameworks, and best practices in informal learning environments.Experience supervising staff and managing contractors.About Our Team:The NWHM believes strongly that our values represent who we are as individuals and as a team.
