Job Summary

This recruitment will be used to fill two part-time, intermittent (approximately 12 hours as needed) Transporter positions for Printing and Mailing Services at Oregon State University (OSU).

The Transporter operates various vehicles in transporting official business and/or in delivering/picking up U.S. Mail and parcels, interagency and agency mail, parcels, and documents on scheduled daily trips throughout a city and/or between Oregon cities and towns.

This position performs all of the campus mail routes. This person picks up all mail and packages. These includes, but not limited to: Inter-Departmental Mail, USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL and Print orders from various campus and local locations. Sorts the mail for redistribution and delivers to appropriate mailbox on campus. This process occurs twice (or more) a day. Employee may be required to work a non-standard shift. Employee also performs duties in support of all mailing services as backup for process of daily mail and bulk mail.

Printing and Mailing Services provides professional and creative guidance for the many-faceted communication pieces that OSU produces. Project elements may include print (including variable data), bindery, large format printing, and print and Web design, mail list processing and bulk mail. This department also manages both campus and off-campus mail and serves as the OSU shipping center. As a $5 million dollar specialized-service center, Printing & Mailing provides essential communication solutions consisting of document production and distribution services university-wide.

This position is within the Printing & Mailing Services unit of University Relations and Marketing (URM). URM is comprised of 9 units that include 1) Presidents Office 2) News & Research, 3) Marketing, 4) Events, 5) Trademark Licensing, 6) Oregon State Productions, 7) Printing & Mailing Services 8) Conference Services and 9) LaSells Stewart Center.

Key Responsibilities

90% Campus Mail

The typical tasks of the Transporter position are: sorts, bundles, picks up and delivers on a precise, daily schedule

U.S. Mail and parcels, interagency and agency mail; loads and unloads vehicle; hand delivers mail to agency; maintains any required records; ensures that vehicles are kept in mechanical and operational readiness by maintaining cleanliness of vehicle, maintaining service records, and scheduling for preventive maintenance; responds to agency inquiries relating to U.S. Postal Service rules and regulations and mail pickup and delivery times.

Sort campus interdepartmental mail. Using a university vehicle, pick up all interdepartmental communication from designated boxes. Mail is put into tubs and delivered to Campus Mail. All Print Service and Mailing Services envelopes are separated out.

5% Support of Mailing Services:

Includes but not limited to: Mailing Service envelopes are opened and mail is sorted into trays and carts for the Mailing Services meter operators. In addition, the employee will assist in Mailing Services functions, which may include but not be limited to sorting mail, sorting off the addresser belt, stuffing envelopes, bulk mail, bindery, processing express mail (UPS & FedEx), and other tasks assigned by supervisor. The extent to which any of these tasks are done depends on the workload.

3% Cross Training:

Employee will participate in cross training of Mailing Services procedures and machinery as assigned by supervisor and may be assigned those duties depending on workload.
