For a complete description of our benefits for this position, please visit our website.The Center for International Trade in Forest Products (CINTRAFOR) at the University of Washington is searching for a full-time Public Information Specialist to help develop and manage CINTRAFOR’s public outreach and communications, and to support our research. Overall, they will use initiative, interpretation of complex information, an artistic eye, and good judgment to prepare and manage engaging and effective communications. This position is based on the University of Washington, Seattle campus.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Help develop, manage, and maintain CINTRAFOR’s external communication strategy and implementation.Develop and distribute content (written, oral, and electronic) that keeps the public, legislators, grantors, and other key constituents informed of CINTRAFOR’s programs, research, community outreach, and accomplishments.Edit CINTRAFOR’s website content to keep updated/current and make social media posts on CINTRAFOR’s X account (formerly Twitter) as needed.Search for and create opportunities for public outreach events where CINTRAFOR personnel can share information about our research, targeting one event per quarter.Help identify key education opportunities and approaches to communicate CINTRAFOR research, address misinformation, and develop strategic relationships.Manage communications and outreach for the Independent Scientific Peer Review (ISPR) program.Assist the CINTRAFOR primary investigators (PI) with preparation of progress reports for funding agencies.Help graduate students with their presentation materials to effectively communicate about their research.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

BA/BS degree and two years of experience in marketing, journalism, communications or a related field. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Experience in developing and executing communications strategies and plans, including writing and editing skills for print, websites, and presentations.Experience writing and editing newsletters, articles, key messages, presentations, and other communication materials.Self-motivated and self-directed with a passion for learning about the work of others and producing compelling communications.Demonstrated ability to interpret technical and scientific information for a non-technical audience.Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to build working relationships across diverse groups of people.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficiency with digital and social media platforms, including X (Twitter) and Instagram.Working proficiency with Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, and Photoshop.Experience with tools for managing web-based content, such as WordPress, Google Sites, etc.Experience with newsletter marketing and calendaring tools.APPLICATION PROCESS:
